Tracker Season 3 Episode 15 Review: No Good Deed

It seems that Wicked inspires Tracker Season 3 Episode 15, “No Good Deed.”

The episode explores the repercussions of going against the status quo, whether it involves helping a stranger or an old friend.

Colter searches for Simon, someone on house arrest after the State charges him with cyberhacking. It is a serious crime, but Simon is anything but a criminal.

Mel suggests that Simon is like Robin Hood because he takes money from wealthy insurance companies and gives it to clients in need.

However, Robin Hood is not the only fictional character with whom Simon shares similarities. Wicked‘s protagonist, Elphaba, becomes Oz’s biggest outlaw — the Wicked Witch of the West — but she never actually does anything wrong.

In fact, the Wizard punishes Elphaba for wanting to save the animals from his systemic oppression, similarly to how the State wants to hold Simon accountable for his actions.

It begs the question of what constitutes a good or bad deed and whether it is okay to break the law to help someone. Morality does not automatically align with the law, as history repeatedly shows.

An act being illegal does not necessarily mean it is wrong, but it does not change the fact that Simon must pay the price for doing what is right, just like Elphaba does.

Tracker sets up a clever parallel between Simon and Elphaba to examine the concepts of morality and justice. Choosing such a popular fictional character in a renowned story is an excellent way to keep audiences engaged.

The episode title even references Elphaba’s iconic Act II number, “No Good Deed,” a song in which Elphaba decides to embrace being the Wicked Witch of the West because every good thing she does just makes her more of a villain in Oz’s eyes.

“No Good Deed” actually has a slow start, but once the episode really delves into its themes by paralleling Wicked, it is impossible to look away.

The narrative becomes even more exciting when Colter realizes that Simon is truly in danger due to his circumstances.

Simon gets caught in a lover’s spat between an infamous drug trafficking couple, all because he witnesses an unknown party kidnapping the wife, Bruna. However, Simon would not be Simon if he did not do all he could to help her.

Of course, Simon has no way of knowing who Bruna is, but this situation still effectively illustrates the consequences someone might face for going above and beyond with good deeds.

Simon: Gonna think twice next time I do a good deed.

Randy also takes center stage on Tracker Season 3 Episode 15, “No Good Deed,” because Simon is his best friend. It is always a treat when the show focuses on one of the main characters, especially since most episodes usually involve a case with people Colter has never met before.

Even though Colter does not know Simon, he immediately jumps to help Randy find him, free of charge. It illustrates how much Colter values his friends.

Randy deeply cares about his friends too, but “No Good Deed” portrays a new side of Randy — one where he neglects to call Simon back and support him after his arrest.

Truthfully, Randy is a loving friend. He always has Colter’s back, he warmly welcomes Mel into the group, and he supports Reenie’s needs. Most importantly, he leads the charge to find Simon, illustrating that despite his insecurities, he deeply cares.

Randy is more similar to Colter than he thinks, and both characters are excellent friends to have.

Colter also demonstrates his value for his friends by being extra attentive to Reenie on “No Good Deed,” leading to a highly anticipated reunion between them.

Colter and Reenie’s dynamic has been lacking severely on Tracker Season 3. It makes sense, given Reenie’s hands are full with the class-action real estate lawsuit, and Colter jumps from city to city due to new cases.

However, it does not change the fact that their dynamic is one of the best parts on the show, and the longer Colter and Reenie remain separated, the more disheartening the portrayal of their friendship becomes.

Colter and Reenie’s reunion emphasizes that no matter how much time passes, they are always on the same wavelength and understand each other as no one else can.

It is why their relationship is the best on Tracker, and hopefully, they continue to evolve.
