Memory of a Killer Season 1 Episode 10 Review: Exposed

Reviews

From the moment we discovered Earl was working for the Ferryman, it became obvious that Angelo’s wife’s death was orchestrated. Lo and behold, Memory of a Killer Season 1 Episode 10, “Exposed,” proves this theory correct when Dave shows Angelo the photos of Leah they found in Earl’s apartment.

Grant figured out a way to use everyone she ever came across to haunt Angelo for what he did to her son. And while it seems Angelo has won because Grant is dead, she tells him his nightmare is only just beginning.

Viewers’ immediate thought is that she is talking about his Alzheimer’s diagnosis and how it will affect him. However, Grant surprises us from beyond the dead by having every file on the people Angelo has killed delivered straight to Maria, leading her to her father’s hideout.

If there were any viewers watching the show who were interested in Nicky and Angelo’s relationship, they would be happy to know Nicky confesses to having feelings for Angelo. While we know it might have been hard for him to dismiss the fact that she put his daughter in danger, the possibility of a relationship is completely erased when Grant hires someone to kill Nicky.

Whether she does it to redeem herself or to show Angelo that she cares, Nicky agrees to help him draw Grant out. Sadly, this works against her, as she bleeds out on a park bench after a man hired by Grant stabs her in plain sight.

Truthfully, the show built Nicky to be a likable character. Even though she worked for Grant, her background story makes us sympathize with her and understand why she made that choice.

In the end, she had already redeemed herself in the eyes of the viewers by warning Maria that Earl was coming for her. It would have been great to see her back for Memory of a Killer Season 2, particularly because she would have been the only one to know the truth about Angelo’s diagnosis.

The possibility that both Angelo and Grant would survive their battle was never real. Even though we could potentially see Angelo walking away, Grant was already in too deep, and she wouldn’t simply stop her revenge.

That is exactly what we see happening on Memory of a Killer Season 1 Episode 10, “Exposed.” Angelo tells Joe that they are walking away, but the moment they turn to go, the men Grant hired appear and start shooting at them. She could never go on with her life knowing that Angelo is still out there.

Grant plans that meeting knowing that there is a big chance that she will die.  That is also why she sends her daughter-in-law and her granddaughter away. Not only is she trying to keep them away from the FBI investigation that Angelo has helped launch, but she is also trying to keep them alive.

Of course, we know Angelo would never hurt her family. This is also portrayed when Grant gets her family into the car. Even though there is a continuation mistake in which we see Julia buckling her daughter in the car, but then she is hugging Grant, this shows where Angelo draws the line.

He would have never killed Parks had he known the truth. Sadly, simply saying that won’t help Grant come to terms with her son’s death…or her own.

Angelo has been so focused on keeping his lives separate that he is blind to the fact that he has people who care about him on both sides of who he is. Joe has come to see Angelo as a mentor, someone he admires. And even though he might not have what it takes to be a hitman, he shows up when Angelo needs him because he cares about him.

Joe makes the ultimate sacrifice because he truly believes in protecting family. Before the ending, we wonder how Angelo will manage to keep everything separate now that Joe knows the truth.

We wonder this specifically about Dutch. Even though he claims he is ready to walk away from this life, everything changes the moment he hears Joe talk about a daughter. He isn’t dumb, and he knows exactly what this means. However, Angelo doesn’t take the bait and continues to keep Maria a secret from him.

But with Maria knocking on Angelo’s fancy New York apartment and demanding the truth, there’s little Angelo can do now to keep his hitman and his salesman lives separate. It is clear that the next season of Memory of a Killer will be life-changing for him.

It’s going to be particularly life-changing now that his grandson, Liam, has become the first post-it note he has pinned to his wall. Just like Michael, Angelo has begun to need clues and notes to keep his life as “normal” as possible.

Forgetting his daughter’s name at the hospital is a clue to how fast his diagnosis is advancing. However, as important as this has been for the show and his storyline, it seems that over the last few episodes, the show has forgotten to focus on it.

Hopefully, with an upcoming Memory of a Killer Season 2, they will focus more closely on how this diagnosis is advancing and the changes Angelo needs to make.
