Watson Season 2 Episode 13 Review: For a Limited Time Only
On Watson Season 2 Episode 13, “For a Limited Time Only,” Sasha is at church when a young women named Aubrey comes in for confession but seemingly dies in front of the priest.
Well after all resuscitation efforts have been abandoned, Aubrey suddenly gasps for air in front of Sasha and Stephens. She immediately attributes this to a miracle and sets out to correct the greatest wrong in in her life: stealing $185,000 from an ex.
Said ex is not particularly willing to hear her or the team’s rationale, though his mother does eventually persuade him to come around. The doctors are able to attribute her revivals to the cells left behind after a miscarriage.

Her odd are 50/50 based on the gender of the lost baby, but, because this is Watson, Aubrey survives. Meanwhile, John notices a strange condition in Mary’s new boyfriend and is able to persuade him to get it checked out.
Any storyline based on coming back from the dead is likely to have religious connotations and this is no exception. Indeed, Audrey immediately heads back to church to spread the good word of her own experience of revival.
While we of course immediately divert to finding the actual medical reason for what’s happening, there’s a nice balance with what can and can’t be explained, leading to some deep and interesting conversation within the team.

I hope we expand on the peeks of psychology and back story that come with each member thinking about the “worst thing they’ve ever done” and what they might do to try and make amends if given a second chance at life.
The case itself is another solid one, though still a little rushed toward the end. Aubrey is well written and acted: we both understand why those she hurt are still so resentful of her but believe her remorse enough to root for her.
This is another episode with little continuation of ongoing plots. Shinwell is absent, presumably on Sherlock’s trail, but this is only mentioned in passing and a couple other storylines are frustratingly ignored altogether.

The notable exception comes from John’s interactions with Mary and her boyfriend, last seen kissing just as he was presumably prepared to confess love to his ex-wife while still being in a relationship with his own girlfriend, Layla.
For most of the episode, it’s not as awkward as you might expect. John happens to notice a potential medical condition from a random photo of the other man and follows up as a matter of genuine concern for his health.
Mary is a bit suspicious, but his advice turns out to be warranted. Still, it takes some wry commentary from Brenda to make John realize that he needs to acknowledge his true feelings and especially what they might mean for Layla.

I don’t know how this potential love triangle will turn out, but I am glad to see an outsider offer some common sense. Hopefully, it’s a sign that both this and other messy character dynamics will progress before the end of the season.
