Two for Tee Review: Janel Parrish and Chris McNally Shape a Sweet Love Story

Reviews, TV Movies

If you’re looking for a sweet spring fling to celebrate the warmer weather on the way, Hallmark has just the thing.

Two for Tee is a cozy tale of culture and community that showcases a lovely chemistry between Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars) and Chris McNally (When Calls the Heart).

This heartwarmer follows Tee, an aspiring pottery artist who finds inspiration in her Chinese American roots. Along the way, a community center of likeable characters and a supportive (and single!) handyman help shape her passion.

The film adorably balances Tee’s dreams to create art for galleries and her desire to save the local community center. This ambitious rom-com anchors these crusades to a budding romance between Tee and her smitten co-worker Will — who will fix just about anything to win her heart.

Indeed, it’s a lot to juggle for any Hallmark romance, but Two for Tee rises to the challenge.

The story prioritizes Tee’s career aspirations, shaping a beautiful throughline with elegant pottery montages and techniques steeped in real history.

Yet through it all, there’s Will, being romantic as hell as he helps the girl of his dreams reach for hers.

Additionally, the romance could feel like an afterthought if the chemistry and swoonability of its leads weren’t so undeniable.

Parrish has become an instant-watch Hallmark lead. She brings a steadfast charm and grounding nature to all her characters that extends to their pursuits. Tee’s love for pottery and the elements of her culture explored throughout this film are a natural extension of the character.

McNally is a delightful choice to play off her, and I urge Hallmark to put him in more of these movies moving forward.

Will, the trusty handyman, is such a wholesome concept for a leading man. He’s an attentive father and a strong support system for the community to lean on. He’s entirely unproblematic, and his desire to fix everything in everyone else’s lives free of charge is hot.

Ultimately, whoever made the decision to accessorize McNally with a gold chain is the MVP of this film.

That small choice for his character does more for Will’s development than any backstory. Additionally, his relationship with his daughter doesn’t feel like another element being thrown into the plot to diversify it.

It is lovely to see the film bypass gender norms by encouraging his daughter to learn how to use different tools. It’s a minor, adorable scene between father and daughter, but appreciated nonetheless for what it accomplishes.

The same goes for the ensemble of community center regulars. They all have distinguishable talents and personalities, and it is sweet to see them supporting Tee’s romantic endeavors and career pursuits. The open house at the end of the film feels as much like their happy ending as it does hers.

Two for Tee is very much a cozy romance. It’s a lighthearted comfort watch, which means the romance can at times become so subtle to the story that it’s background noise.

Ultimately, the film compensates by crafting a larger story that is interesting and complementary. However, if you expect your romances to be heavy on the lingering touches and grand romantic gestures, you may not love the focus of this rom-com.

For others, this spring outing is the breezy watch we need to feel lighter.

With a story that champions an adorable chemistry and grazes the warmth of community togetherness, Tee’s time with us is time well spent.
