Paradise Season 2 Episode 6 Review: Jane
On Paradise Season 2 Episode 6, “Jane,” we see more of the woman who might be the bunker’s truest sociopath and still manage to end on the most hopeful moment of the show yet.
Before Jane is born, anonymous messages warn a man of what she will become. As a child, she nearly kills her own mother. As a trainee, she attacks a man given a promotion over her mentor, presenting said mentor with a certain part of his.
In the bunker, awareness grows of both her true nature and the efforts toward revolt. Dr. Torabi is already suspicious when Anderson tells her who killed Baines. She moves to confront Sinatra, but Jane stands in the way.

Underground, Jeremy and other prisoners plan to open the doors of Paradise with Anderson’s guidance. Before they can, Sinatra does so herself, sending Jane to confront the outsiders and negotiate a meeting with Link and his men.
As this unfolds, Xavier continues to try to save Terri, still trusting Gary. He realizes the truth when the man almost blows him up. The men “holding” her surround him as he lies on the ground and husband and wife see each other again at last.
It’s fascinating to learn more about Jane, but does this backstory ultimately change how she’s perceived? Not much. As she tells Sam, she has come to be a human weapon hired to be used as needed. We’re just seeing how she became this way.

The impact this knowledge will have may be more significant. The realization that Jane is anything but an innocent and helpless young woman is spreading fast, and yet her influence is so deep that I can’t yet imagine what can stop her.
For now, she’s a tool in Sinatra’s belt; one that shapes all the tense dynamics to come both within the bunker and during its first exposure to the world and people outside. It can turn already dangerous times into a powder keg.
Even with Sinatra successfully manipulating her fellow leaders in this hour, it feels like everyone in power is at odds with each other. That gives power to various sources of rebellion, though their alliances aren’t much stronger.

What we do know is that somewhere in these final two episodes of the season, both outsiders and the inside rebellion will come for the fragile power structures of Paradise. I’m sure more lives will be lost and don’t think anyone is safe.
There’s even a moment of doubt for Xavier when Gary sets off that bomb. The only real lesson is that a man obsessed with an uninterested women should never be trusted. But Xavier lives— and has finally been reunited with his wife.
This is of course where we cut to black, but while I dread everything else to come, I can’t wait for their reunion. And if they team up with the people on the train to take down Gary before heading to the bunker, I won’t be too bothered.
