Previews, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Viewers can expect some backstory and world-building on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1 Episode 4, “Vox in Excelso.”

On the episode, the cadets and the academy face a moral dilemma. They have to decide what to do when a much-loved species, but one with a complicated, notorious history, faces possible extinction.

With competing moral and legal imperatives at play, hard choices must be made. That is particularly true for Jay-Den, the academy’s pacifist Klingon cadet. For reasons we don’t yet know, the academy’s dilemma also raises a personal conflict for Jay-Den. It will force him to reckon with his past and his relationship with his family.

This will be viewers’ first chance to get to know Jay-Den, who is one of the more mysterious cadets, better. It will be fun to learn a little bit about Jay-Den’s history and what shaped his views.

Views that are pretty different from those of most of the Klingons Star Trek fans have met in the past.

More than that, learning about Jay-Den’s history with his family will also give viewers a chance to see the current state of the Klingon Empire. We’ve met a few Klingons so far on the show, each very different from the others.

We have not yet, however, had many opportunities to see the political context that surrounds them or how they have adapted since the events of Star Trek: Discovery.

Here’s everything you need to know about this episode, including the air date, cast, and how to watch.
