Bob’s Burgers Season 16 Episode 10, “Heist Things Are Heist,” brings the whole family together and finally gives Bob the recognition he deserves — sort of.

All the Belchers head to Kingshead Island because the restaurant won an award. If you ever wondered if Bob’s burgers are actually good or not, he now has “the best dive on the mainland” award backing up his skills.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice how uncharacteristically jovial Bob is. He wrote off the award for a long time, but now that he’s won it himself, he’s ecstatic about the recognition and publicity.

He is in such a good mood that he not only doesn’t mind one of Gene’s inappropriate comments, but he actually laughs it off. This is how you know that his good mood isn’t going to last.

That and the fact that he promises the kids that they’ll get fudge after the event — something that obviously is not going to come easily.

Bob’s good mood tanks when he learns that he not only doesn’t get to keep the display award, but he has to pay if he wants one to keep.

As the title implies, this is a heist episode, and a good one at that. The kids, seeing how upset their dad is, want to steal the award.

The kids are partially motivated by the desire to boost Bob’s mood enough that he’s willing to take them to get fudge. But in Louise’s words, it’s also about justice.

The Belchers are one of the most lovable cartoon families for a reason. It’s sweet to see all three kids band together for their dad.

Season 16 has been bringing back quite a few characters, and this time, it’s Vincent Bartos, alleged thief and restaurant owner from Bob’s Burgers Season 14 Episode 16, “To Catch a Beef.” After they fail their first attempt to steal the award, Vincent joins their heist as a mentor.

Previous episodes have the kids scheming, but this time, the higher risk makes it more interesting. It’s nice to see the Belcher kids back to being the menaces we know them to be.

Meanwhile, the B-plot actually ties in pretty well with the main plot. Bob is venting to the neighboring food stand about his situation.

The other stand in question specializes in cakes that don’t look like cakes. The kids point out that they don’t actually taste very good since they’re mostly fondant, and while this could have just been a one-off joke for people who know what fondant tastes like, it actually comes back in a major way.

You can usually tell whether or not a scheme will be successful if they explain the plan beforehand. Here, we don’t know what the kid’s plan is until after it succeeds.

It’s full of twists and turns as you try to figure out how it’s going to come together. Their success feels earned, and it’s fun to rewatch the sequence knowing what they’re doing.

The kids get their fudge, and Bob gets his award, ending the episode on a positive note with Bob being happy again.

“Heist Things Are Heist” is absolutely one of the stronger episodes of the series, thanks to its humor and the inherent intrigue of a good heist.
