Tulsa King Season 3 Episode 9 Review: Dead Weight

Reviews

Dunmire is delusional if he thinks he can get away with taking Joanne on Tulsa King Season 3 Episode 9 “Covered In Rock.” He seems to keep coming after Manfredi’s women, forgetting there’s nothing Dwight wouldn’t do for the people he loves.

He made a mistake trusting that a bomb would put an end to Manfredi, and he’s making a mistake again if he thinks nothing will happen to him for hurting Joanne. It is clear that Dunmire thinks with rage and spontaneity without considering the consequences.

But with Tulsa King Season 3 so close to coming to an end, it is to be expected for things to get even more chaotic.

The beginning of Tulsa King Season 3 teased viewers with a Joanne who seemed to be a little more in charge. While she still handles the distillery, it would have been nice to see her take control beyond those walls.

But just as the fans do, Grace sees the potential and power in Joanne and asks to learn from her. This is the best decision the show could have taken.

If Joanne survives whatever Dunmire has planned, it would be a missed opportunity for the show not to dig deeper into what Grace can learn from her. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise because Tulsa King hasn’t dug deep enough into the potential of every woman.

While we have seen Margaret’s power, the rest of them only get a superficial look at what they’re capable of. Grace’s accomplishments always seem tied to Bodhi, while Spencer is growing because she’s working with Tyson.

It would be a change of pace for Tulsa King Season 4 to give women the room to grow.

Growth for Tyson is highly linked to money, which proves he hasn’t learned anything. He thinks that now that he and Spencer pulled off one party and he has given Manfredi money, he is someone.

But the truth is far from that. Manfredi isn’t someone because he has money, and that seems to be something Tyson doesn’t understand.

It becomes even clearer when they get kicked out of the club for selling drugs, and he tries to fight security. His overconfidence and unmeasured eagerness will land him in trouble again.

Tyson has no thoughts of consequences. But he’s also not learned from his past mistakes. It doesn’t look like he’ll land on his feet.

Tulsa King Season 3 Episode 9 “Covered In Rock,” serves as the perfect introduction for Nola King. Samuel L. Jackson’s character fits perfectly into the world this franchise is creating.

It links this new character back to Manfredi’s past through Ray and their time spent in prison together. But it also shows his morals and his loyalty to Manfredi, which will definitely take him far in a world ruled by Dwight.

Russell Lee Washington Jr. is just like Manfredi: old school and ready to fight. It would be quite extraordinary to see crossovers between the OG and spin-off shows in the upcoming seasons.
