Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Reviews

The latest episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage brings back a few beloved characters in a major way.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 3, “A Will and a Dead Man’s Wife,” sees the return of Mary and Missy Cooper. On the surprisingly somber episode, we learn Meemaw has been trying to set Mary up on a date with another widower.

One of the most heart-wrenching moments on Young Sheldon is the sudden death of George Cooper. Obviously, Mary is devastated over his passing, so to see her begin to move on is bittersweet.

Over dinner, Missy and Mandy playfully press a very apprehensive Mary for information about her potential date. Everyone is excited for her!

Everyone except for Georgie.

This episode puts Georgie’s worst traits in the forefront. He digs his heels in and adamantly proclaims it’s too soon for her to be moving on.

On one hand, it’s selfish of him to make his mother feel guilty for trying to find companionship after her husband’s passing. On the other hand, it’s hard not to empathize with Georgie’s grief and fear surrounding it.

Mandy, of course, calls him out for it, but in typical Georgie fashion, he doesn’t budge initially.

We actually get to see some of Mary’s first date, and it’s very sweet. Zoe Perry does a stellar job at portraying the nervousness in that situation.

It makes it all the sweeter when, throughout the episode, you see her and Joseph hitting it off. Which also makes Georgie’s inability to handle it that much more disappointing.

More “Fun” Death Conversation

With all the death talk in the air, Jim and Audrey start talking about their will. Jim opens the conversation with a deadpan, “I was thinking about us dying,” and it becomes clear the B-plot is going to provide some much-needed comic relief.

Neither Jim nor Audrey has any faith in their children’s financial abilities. They subtly question Mandy and Connor to see what they’d do if they came into a large sum of money, and hilariously are proven correct.

You know it’s bad when the most responsible person in the room is Georgie.

Inevitably, Georgie learns that his mother is dating through Missy. While Missy is clearly benefiting from her mom dating since it got her out of the house long enough to throw a party, it’s also very clear she’s not okay with how Georgie is handling this.

Given Mary and Missy’s oftentimes tumultuous relationship, it’s refreshing to see her stand up for her here.

In a heartbreaking scene, Mary prays, expressing her guilt for moving on and upsetting Georgie so much. Missy overhears this and begins to take her mother’s plight much more seriously.

She goes to the shop and leaves a message with Ruben to stay out of their mom’s love life. You can’t help but smile at how excited Ruben is to relay this message.

Georgie’s stubbornness, while frustrating, is understandable. His mother is ready to start moving forward with her life, but he isn’t. It’s not that he wants her to be lonely; he’s just afraid that his father’s memory is in jeopardy.

What eventually gets him to back off is actually seeing his mom with Joseph. She’s laughing, cracking jokes, and clearly enjoying herself.

Despite his own grief and fears, Georgie can’t take that away from her.

It’s not a clean resolution, but it’s a believable one. We likely haven’t heard the end of this, but for the time being, it appears that Georgie is going to push his own feelings down.

While “A Will and a Dead Man’s Wife” is not as laugh-out-loud funny as some other episodes, it showcased quite a bit of character development from almost everyone in the Cooper family.
