Natasha Lyonne as Charlie on Poker Face Season 2 Episode 7, "One Last Job." 5 TV Shows to Watch on Peacock Now

5 TV Shows to Watch on Peacock Now

Based on a True Story, Lists, Poker Face

Peacock may be one of the most underrated streaming services. It’s full of NBC classics, blockbuster movies, and so much more. Peacock also has an abundance of original programming.

I can honestly say that I have seen most of Peacock’s original TV shows. They have an abundance in all categories, but are still very limited compared to other major streaming services.

However, I have yet to see a Peacock original TV show that wasn’t, at the very least, enjoyable. Nevertheless, some of them stand out a bit more than others. This list contains five of Peacock’s best original TV series. They represent varying genres, from comedy to reality TV.

Let’s dig into what you may be missing by not subscribing to Peacock.

1. Poker Face

Poker Face is a mystery comedy series starring Natasha Lyonne and created by Rian Johnson. Lyonne plays Charlie, a woman who can detect when people lie.

This helps her solve crimes. Each episode of Poker Face starts with a murder. Viewers see how it happens and the culprit. We then watch Charlie’s part in this whole situation, and how she solves it.

Poker Face is a very entertaining series that’s reminiscent of classic mystery series, such as Murder She Wrote and Columbo. If you’re a fan of mystery, with some comedy, Poker Face delivers. It’s one of Lyonne’s best works and more proof that Johnson continues to create fascinating crime solvers who keep you wanting more. Poker Face has two seasons currently on Peacock.

2. The Day of the Jackal
The Day of the Jackal – Season 1

The Day of the Jackal is based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name. It follows a professional assassin who goes by the name Jackal. Eddie Redmayne stars in the lead role.

The Day of the Jackal thrills with all its intrigue. MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, played by Lashana Lynch, tries to hunt down the Jackal and bring him to justice. Jackal represents a bit of a different kind of assassin.

He’s a cold-blooded killer, but also seems to show some emotions, especially about his wife and child. The man is an anomaly because he is ruthless but not void of emotions. We often don’t see this type of emotionally driven assassin. Writers often eliminate human empathy so that killing comes naturally to these assassins.

It’s a very fun thriller that captures your attention throughout the season. Peacock has already renewed The Day of the Jackal for Season 2.

3. A Friend of the Family
A Friend of the Family - Season 1 Episode 9 - ake Lacy and Mckenna Grace

Based on a true story, A Friend of the Family is about the Broberg family. Their neighbor, Robert Berchtold, seduces the parents, which helps him target their daughter, Jan, whom he kidnaps multiple times and sexually abuses. A Friend of the Family stars Jake Lacy, Colin Hanks, Anna Paquin, Lio Tipton, and Mckenna Grace.

Lacy is especially haunting in the role of Robert Berchtold. This may be his best work yet. A Friend of the Family weaves a tale of deception, naivety, and abuse. Jan undergoes the most abuse from Robert, but each member of the Broberg family falls victim to him in some way.

It’s truly a tale of a monster who torments a family for years. A Friend of the Family stands out for its excellent acting and the sheer horror of this true tale. It leaves you devastated and traumatized.

4. Based on a True Story

BASED ON A TRUE STORY — “The Survivor” Episode 104 — Pictured: (l-r) Sebastian Quinn as Carlos, Priscilla Quintana as Ruby, Kaley Cuoco as Ava, Chris Messina as Nathan — (Photo by: Erica Parise/PEACOCK)

Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina play married couple Ava and Nathan Bartlett. Ava is a pregnant true crime junkie, and Nathan is a former famous tennis player turned coach. Ava’s true crime podcast obsession makes her want to solve a local murder mystery.

Ava and Nathan bite off more than they can chew when they meet the serial killer. It then becomes an opportunity to turn this situation into a podcast with a real killer twist. Based on a True Story is an extremely fun horror comedy. Messina and Cuoco have excellent chemistry that immediately endears you to this complicated couple. This makes it a bit easier to forgive the fact that they’re helping a serial killer by not reporting him.

Unfortunately, Peacock canceled Based on a True Story after two seasons. Therefore, it ends on a major cliffhanger. Nevertheless, the first two seasons are worth streaming, even with the series feeling unfinished.

5. The Traitors
The Traitors - Season: 1

Peacock has an abundance of great reality TV shows, including Love Island. However, The Traitors remains its strongest contribution to the reality TV world.

The show features reality TV stars from across many different popular TV shows, including Survivor, Big Brother, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and The Real Housewives franchise. Plus, many other reality TV shows.
