Murderbot Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Rogue War Tracker Infinite
Murderbot Season 1 Episode 5, “Rogue War Infinite Tracker,” brings a DeltFall survivor into the fold as our core crew unravels. It also boasts a strong comedic performance from guest star Anna Konkle, whose Leebeebee subverts the usual dynamic and injects new life into the proceedings.
The Newbie
Konkle’s character is reminiscent of her Pen15 character, but as an adult. The monologue where Leebeebee goes on a tangent about our titular bot’s potential genitalia is absolutely golden. It had me in stitches. Konkle is an expert at approaching awkward moments from a grounded, natural place, letting the dialogue speak for itself.
As for Leebeebee, is she a villain? Could she be doing precisely what SecUnit suspects led to the DeltFall habitat’s downfall: pretending to be a DeltFall survivor to kill them? Is she also a SecUnit gone rogue? The outing does a great job of oscillating between good person and baddie, serving up character beats aplenty that lean one way or the other. Her interest in Gurathin’s work might be a red flag, though.

The Secret’s Out
“Rogue War Tracker Infinite” sees Murderbot’s secret come to light. The PresAux crew knows it hacked its governor module and is now rogue, predating their trip to FreeCommerce. Unsurprisingly, Gurathin is Team Dispose of Murderbot.
However, what transpires next is a relevant meditation on artificial intelligence and its role among humanity. Can it be objectively good? Is it possible to have ethical AI? Or is human extinction at the hands of robots an inevitability? Murderbot deftly addresses this hot-button topic with its usual mix of thoughtfulness and humor.
Alexander Skarsgård knocks it out of the park, as always. With SecUnit living authentically now, as it were, Skarsgård incorporates new shades and colors into his performance. It’s a subtle transformation while retaining the essence of Murderbot. It still doesn’t like maintaining eye contact (relatable), but now it can have genuine conversations with humans, sans responding to orders.

Now, it’s abundantly clear that SecUnit isn’t completely anti-human. After all, upon waking up in the PresAux habitat, it expressed relief that it didn’t kill them. Secondly, it was also relieved that the humans seemed content. So, it’s not a total misanthrope. Who knew the most relatable figure of 2025 would be what’s essentially a robot?
The “Oh, Sh*t” Moment
“Rogue War Tracker Infinite” packs quite a bit narratively into its 22-minute runtime. It’s a strong episode from start to finish, and that short runtime ensures the pacing and momentum never lag. Bolstered by solid performances across the board and dark comedy that lands, it propels these characters into new territory while fleshing them out further.
And can we talk about that action-packed, fiery cliffhanger? It deepens the central mystery, to be sure. Someone, perhaps whoever used the Black SecUnit to commit the DeltFall massacre, timed the emergency beacon to explode right as the PresAux hopper was in proximity. But who? Here’s hoping the answers come swiftly and with a dash of dark humor.

Stray Observations:
- Leebeebee is definitely the enemy if she thinks Rogue War Tracker Infinite: Tribulation is better than The Rise & Fall of Sanctuary Moon. I only trust Murderbot’s TV recs. It will never let me down.
- That kiss made me laugh out loud. Granted, I’m a shortie, so I, too, would only reach Alexander Skarsgård’s chin if he weren’t stooping to meet me.
- We keep seeing that sporadic footage of SecUnit attacking and killing humans. How long ago was this? Could it turn on its humans now? Only time will tell.
- I cracked up when Murderbot interrupted Mensah and Gurathin’s tender moment. It’s the most petty sentient construct in the galaxy, and I’m here for it.
- I’m with Murderbot — the Pin-Lee/Arada/Ratthi triangle is so messy and entertaining. Almost on par with Sanctuary Moon.
