Doctor Odyssey Appears Doomed, Though Not Officially Canceled

Doctor Odyssey, News

The fate of Doctor Odyssey has been in question for quite some time, with ABC announcing renewals for most of its other series back in April. While the network has maintained that the series starring Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson hasn’t officially been canceled yet, time has essentially run out.

Deadline reports that the cast’s options are expiring today (June 30th) and are not being picked up, which means the actors are now free to pursue other projects.

Creator Ryan Murphy is reportedly considering options for the series’ future, but at this point, new deals with the cast would need to be secured for the show to continue. Doctor Odyssey’s sets have also been struck, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

ABC’s Fall slate has already been announced, with a full list of dramas that includes the 9-1-1 spinoff, also from Ryan Murphy, 9-1-1: Nashville, and no space for Doctor Odyssey.

Executive producer and director Paris Barclay also posted a farewell on social media, stating, “#DoctorOdyssey was a singular honor, w/a cast & crew I could only have hoped for. Thank you to all of them, & @ABCNetwork, @Disney, & @RyanMurphyProd for the cruise of a lifetime.”
