Sweet Magnolias Renewed for Season 5 at Netflix
Sweet Magnolias will continue with another chapter of Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen’s friendship. But will they all be in Serenity, NC?
To celebrate World Book Day, Netflix renewed the drama series, based on the popular series of novels by executive producer Sherryl Woods, for Season 5.
Its 10-episode fourth season debuted in February 2025, ending with a few cliffhangers. One of the most paramount is that Maddie accepted a publishing job in New York, leaving her future in Serenity undetermined.

The streamer hasn’t revealed any plot details for Sweet Magnolias‘ upcoming 10-episode season. However, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson teased what’s to come to Netflix’s Tudum, saying, “We are thrilled to let the Magnolias take Manhattan.”
“Not only is this adventure huge fun, it’s also an opportunity to explore the facets of their relationships in a new context. While it’s crucial to have true friends in day-to-day life, it’s priceless to have them supporting you when you leap out of your comfort zone,” Anderson continued.
Anderson shared an additional statement on X about the renewal, writing, “Blessed and thrilled to be going back to Serenity with some of my favorite people in the world. We will work hard but joyously to bring you another season to fill your hearts and lift your spirits. Feel free to pour it out in the meantime!”
The Sweet Magnolias renewal comes amid announcements from Netflix about two more book adaptations coming to the streamer.

“At Netflix, we love when stories transcend the page and light up the screen, allowing fans to experience beloved stories in new and exciting ways,” Jinny Howe, Vice President of Drama, Netflix, said.
“The impact of these adaptations can be so powerful that it not only captivates new audiences around the world, it also causes a resurgence in popularity for the original source material, with many books returning to bestseller lists many years after their initial release,” Howe continued.
The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel about forbidden love in 19th-century New York, will be adapted into a limited series from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Emma Frost (Shameless).
The streamer’s “fresh take” on The Age of Innocence promises to “speak to a new generation” as it asks “the question, what is love — and what is lust? And should we ultimately be driven by our heads or by our hearts?”

Additionally, Netflix is adapting Unaccustomed Earth, Jhumpa Lahiri’s award-winning collection of short stories, into “an epic, soapy, and culturally vibrant” drama series about a tight-knit Indian American community.
The eight-episode series comes from showrunner, writer, and executive producer John Wells (The Pitt); writer and executive producer Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem); director and executive producer Nisha Ganatra (Freakier Friday), who will direct the first episode.
Unaccustomed Earth “invites you into the elite and insular Indian-American community of Cambridge, MA. When a star-crossed romance between a devoted wife and her long-lost love comes to light, a scandalous affair is born and new battle lines are drawn in this intensely inter-connected immigrant community,” per its description.
Meanwhile, Sweet Magnolias Season 5 is executive produced by Dan Paulson with Daniel L. Paulson Productions. Matt Drake is an executive producer, while Norman Buckley serves as co-executive producer on the show.
