Suits: LA Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Good Times
Ted and Rick reconnect to mourn one of their most beloved clients on Suits: LA Season 1 Episode 7, “Good Times.”
In honor of Suits: LA being one of the last projects he ever worked on, the series takes a moment to look at John Amos’ impact on the culture and pay their respects.
Meanwhile, Leah makes a risky decision to see if she should reconsider her career path. Erica enlists Kevin’s help in finding a long-lost friend of her mother’s before he leaves.

An Unfortunate Loss
The death of John Amos remains a staggering tragedy for the entertainment industry despite it being almost a year since his passing.
In a compelling outing that drives home how his impression on film and television is everlasting, Ted and Rick seek to get Amos a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s an honor most deserved, and unfortunately, it’s one Amos didn’t get to enjoy in real life.
After finalizing the leading storyline driving the season’s plot, aka Lester’s murder case, it was a bit worrying wondering how the series would push forward, but “Good Times” is a perfect follow-up.

Not only does it get us back in the habit of seeing other celebrities represented, but it also highlights a real icon. Plus, the reunification of Rick and Ted is a moment I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time.
While the two often like to go at one another like a pair of riled-up brothers, as a whole, they fit together. Rick is in this career because he loves it and is dedicated to helping others, but Ted is the one who knows sometimes you have to break the rules to get what you want.

The Path Not Taken
We know Leah is passionate about entertainment because she grew up consuming the media and imagining herself at the helm of a TV show. However, family traditions led her to other career paths, so she’s now contemplating whether she made the right choice.
Landing her first client as a lawyer is supposed to be an exciting moment that lights a fire underneath her, but that’s not the case. After reading the script provided, she gets the wild idea that she can write something much better.
Leah’s actions lead to a stern exchange between her and Rosalyn when posing the idea of a two-week sabbatical. She does not mince words; Rosalyn keeps things real with her: being a writer is not something you take two weeks off to pursue. It’s a lifestyle that you dedicate all of your available time to.

What makes Leah’s situation even more compelling is that many can easily relate to it. The idea that things could have been greener had we made different decisions in our past haunts many people.
In the end, Leah decides to continue being a lawyer, but not after giving her scripts to Rick under a pseudonym. His unfiltered response to her work opens her eyes to the truth: she’s better off where she is rather than shifting her whole life around.

It’s shocking how one of the more comedic episodes of the season can come from a noteworthy death. Whether it be Rick getting sloppy drunk while mourning Amos or Kevin’s flirtatious interactions with Erica’s mom, there are laughs to be had.
Other Thoughts:
- The final shot of Ted, Kevin, Erica, Rick, and Stuart, all watching Good Times in their respective offices, is the perfect ending.
- Despite turning down Erica’s offer to stay, I hope this isn’t the end of Kevin’s interactions with her and Ted.
- It’s fitting for Stuart that nothing is going his way after stabbing Ted in the back, but seeing him and Samantha getting along would be a fun switch of pace.
- I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Amanda accepts Ted’s job offer to be the new head of criminal defense.
