Heartstopper Movie in Development as Netflix Series’ Final Chapter

Every cute ‘heartthrob’ story has to end eventually. But are fans ready to watch how Heartstopper‘s conclusion will play out?

Netflix announced that Heartstopper will conclude with a feature film now in development.

According to Netflix TUDUM, the film will feature Heartstopper stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke, who will also executive produce the film alongside the creator and author Alice Oseman. It is currently set to film throughout the summer this year.

The Heartstopper film will pick up events from the ending of Heartstopper Season 3. Furthermore, the film will also adapt elements from Oseman’s upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel.

On Heartstopper Season 3 Episode 8, “Apart,” fans got to watch Nick, Elle, Tara, and Imogen figure out which universities they wanted to go to with a bit more drama. There, Imogen told Nick that she’s still trying to figure out her sexuality, struggling with compulsory heterosexuality.

Meanwhile, Nick was worried about not getting to see Charlie again due to the college conundrum, but Nick’s friends encouraged him.

This season’s conclusion ended on a highly heated note, with Nick and Charlie beginning to have sex. Considering this ending, everyone’s future remains incredibly uncertain.

Although one thing is clear: Nick and Charlie are forever inseparable.

The film itself will explore the connection Nick and Charlie share as Nick prepares to leave for university while Charlie has a newfound independence. As such, the challenges of a long-distance relationship begin weighing down on the two. 

Meanwhile, Nick and Charlie’s friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on from where they were on Heartstopper Season 3.

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said in a statement, per Deadline.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

Oseman is the writer of the romance film. They are also an executive producer, alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Euros Lyn, Locke, and Connor. Still Alice helmer Wash Westmoreland will direct.
