The Last of Us Season 2 Trailer Showcases Ellie and Dina’s Relationship, Rise of the Wolves, and New Infected
Joel and Ellie’s world changed before in The Last of Us: Part II. Now, it’s set to transform in live-action form through The Last of Us Season 2, which premieres on Max next month.
Today at SXSW, MAX finally unveiled the official trailer for The Last of Us Season 2. Season 2 begins streaming on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT on MAX, with new episodes releasing weekly.
The official trailer presents more of those moments in The Last of Us: Part II that fans have been waiting for. Whether it be the few moments Joel and Ellie share or the reveals of the new Infected and human threats the two are forced to face, this trailer confidently sets the stage.

The season logline reads as follows: “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The official trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 presents a closer look into the calmer lifestyle Joel and Ellie have built in the Jackson community. Ellie also finds herself developing a closeness to Dina, who plays a very important role in The Last of Us: Part II.
However, dangerous threats lie beyond the high walls of the Jackson community. From new Infected, including the likes of Stalkers, Bloaters, and more, to the militant Washington Liberation Front, Joel and Ellie will have to defend their community time and time again.

In addition, the official trailer also gives us new looks at other cast members, including Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon, reprising his role as the ruthless leader from The Last of Us: Part II. Tati Gabrielle also appears as Nora, giving Ellie an ominous warning about Joel.
However, one character shockingly not present in the trailer is Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, who plays an important role in Joel’s arc in The Last of Us: Part II. Given how big of a spoiler Abby’s actions are in terms of The Last of Us Season 2, it will be interesting to see how her character is developed in the grand scheme of the series.
Nonetheless, fans of the original games can expect integral story beats to play out, like Ellie learning the whole truth about what Joel did before Season 1, Abby and Ellie’s face-offs, and much more.

The Last of Us, based on the acclaimed video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation® consoles, is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells; with writer/co-executive producer Halley Gross.
