Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 7, “We’re Gonna Be in So Much Trouble,” is a tense and tightly directed 30-minute race back to At Attin.

The episode deftly sets up a final showdown between Jod and the kids, just as they have all gotten exactly what they wanted.

Lee Isaac Chung returns to direct after his turn on The Mandalorian, making expert use of the practical effects and dramatic twists throughout this episode’s script, written by the returning Christopher Ford and Jon Watts.

The main cast of kids continues to demonstrate impressive talent with their dual excitement and terror at the thought of finally returning home but with a pirate ship in tow.

However, Episode 7 brings a new and intense focus to Jod/Captain Silvo, giving Jude Law an extremely entertaining villainous twist.

Silvo, for all his bluster, is hell-bent on getting his gold, and he becomes even more cutthroat as he gets closer and closer to At Attin. Not only is Law clearly enjoying himself playing such an interesting character in the Star Wars universe, but he is also riveting to watch.

Silvo lies and beguiles to get rid of his former mutinous crew member Brutus (another very obvious reference) and make it to the glorious treasure of the Old Republic mint.

There are also intriguing connections between why he is so focused on looking after himself and his jealousy of the kids’ utopic lives on their home planet.

Skeleton Crew avoids the risky villainous backstory and justification by hinting at why Silvo might be so self-serving.

This episode has to do a lot of heavy lifting to set up the final showdown coming during the finale. It has to wrap up both the kids’ and the pirates’ journey to bring them all to At Attin.

The pacing continues to be consistent, this time focusing more on the kids’ trepidation at getting home and on Captain Silvo’s laser-like focus on getting onto the planet.

Chung makes some tasteful choices in choosing who to focus on when the episode is at its most violent, especially when Silvo kills Brutus. All we see is Silvo’s hateful look and arm pointed at Brutus, and then an accompanying cut to the terrified kids’ faces.

The same choice is made when the kids return to At Attin as they see the other pirate ships get destroyed by the barrier.

Skeleton Crew has done well to keep the mystery surrounding At Attin just out of reach and to communicate its stakes effectively.

While the story is not necessarily focused on galaxy-wide threats, this focus makes it so that we feel the threat that Silvo makes to the kids’ parents deeply, rather than getting lost in bigger battles.

This also makes the reunion between the kids and their parents that much more powerful since the show has spent so much time building up their relationships and the growing desire of the kids to return to their old lives.

This focus also makes the destruction of SM-33 (wonderfully voiced by Nick Frost) at the hands of Silvo that much more hard-hitting right as SM-33 makes a stand for the kids one last time.

Every episode has had one main character focus, and while Episode 7 is definitely focused more on Jod/Captain Silvo, it also allowed for some necessary heart-to-heart conversations between the kids and their parents.

The episode ends on a significant cliffhanger after Jod has let out an absolutely evil laugh at the sight of towers of Old Republic credits, with Jod seemingly about to make good on his threat of hurting the parents.

Skeleton Crew strikes again with a cliffhanger that will keep its audience anxiously waiting for the finale.

On its penultimate episode of the season, Skeleton Crew continues its excellent streak with a nail-biting race back to the kids’ home planet and a heartwarming reunion with their parents.

All that is left to see is the fate of the wily pirate Silvo, and the show has set itself up to make for a dramatic finish.
