Andra Day Joins Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 as Athena
Annabeth Chase’s godly mother has finally arrived in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2!
Today, at D23 Brazil, it was announced that The United States vs. Billie Holiday‘s Andra Day will be joining the show as the goddess of wisdom, Athena.
Athena is perhaps one of the most important characters in Rick Riordan’s book series going forward. However, how Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will address her, given the show’s changes, remains unknown as of now.

Per Variety, Day appeared at the panel by video, celebrating the announcement and teasing what the goddess has in store.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the amazing cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” Day stated in a video via Instagram, wearing her laurel. “I can’t wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actors.”
Athena was referenced several times during Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1. In fact, she allowed the Chimera to attack the celestial trio on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 4, “I Plunge To My Death.”
While Day’s casting is very exciting for fans, it’s reasonable to expect that Athena may only appear for a short time.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 follows the events of the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters. This season sees Percy returning to Camp Half-Blood a year later with new circumstances.
In the book, Athena only appears in one scene, so there’s a chance that we won’t see a lot of her during Season 2.
Athena’s one scene is arguably the most important scene shared by Percy and Annabeth in the book: Athena appears to Annabeth in an illusion caused by the Sirens when they lure the two demigods.
There’s also a chance Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 could change some things and Athena more scenes on the show. It’s likely that fans could see Annabeth receiving her iconic Cap of Invisibility from Athena or even drop teases for future stories like The Titan’s Curse or The Mark of Athena.

In addition, the audience at D23 Brazil also got to see more insight into what Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 might hold. Some things that were showcased included a model of Camp Half-Blood’s chariot race area, which was teased previously.
Per the Season 2 official description, “Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.”
With the recent news of Tamara Smart joining as Thalia Grace and production almost being finished, it’s likely more news will come in store. Nonetheless, fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians can hope that the journey to the Sea of Monsters will come sooner than expected!
