‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer Features Walker Scobell and Chariot Races

News, Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is already looking to head to the races.

Disney+ and 20th Century Studios released a new teaser trailer for the acclaimed live-action adaptation based on author Rick Riordan’s original novels. On day one of D23 Expo, con-goers got a new look at the season with that teaser.

The first half of the teaser presented some iconic moments from Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1: Percy getting claimed by Poseidon on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 2, “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom,” him confronting the Chimera at the St. Louis Arch on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 4, “I Plunge to my Death,” and his fight with Ares on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 8, “The Prophecy Comes True.”

However, the teaser’s second half showcased new footage, including a closer look at an older Percy and his shared stylized chariot decorated in the honor of Poseidon and Athena, Annabeth’s godly parent.

This footage teases the chariot race from The Sea of Monsters, Riordan’s second novel that Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is based on. In the book, Camp Half-Blood’s new activities director, Tantalus, decides to hold one of these races despite them being previously banned.

This decision by Tantalus ties into his manipulative behavior towards Percy and Tyson before Percy and his friends set off on their quest. In doing so, it further helps him sympathize with Clarisse La Rue, who gets assigned the all-important quest.

Given how this season’s production has been following closely the narrative structure since it began on August 1, the return to Camp Half-Blood is likely being filmed ahead of some more personal scenes that will also see the return of the anti-heroic Luke Castellan.

Per the Season 2 official description, “Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.”

Previously announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Daniel Diemer is joining Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 as Tyson, “a young Cyclops who grew up all alone on the streets, and finds it difficult to survive in the human world. Shy and awkward, with a heart almost as big as he is, Tyson soon discovers that Poseidon is his father, which means Percy Jackson is his half-brother… and that Tyson may have finally found a home.”

Rick and Becky Riordan serve as executive producers alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D. J. Goldberg, Bert Salke, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Monica Owusu-Breen, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson, Craig Silverstein, and Albert Kim.
