Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episodes 7 and 8 Review: Box of Memories / Least Expected Night
Past, present, and future battle in the latest Betty La Fea, The Story Continues double feature. Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episode 7, “Box of Memories,” and Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episode 8, “Least Expected Night” takes Betty and family back to the past to explore how it all went wrong, and to the present to see how to fix things.
“Box Of Memories” is the more interesting of the episodes because it explores what happens to start what we’re seeing in Betty and her family’s current life.
Also, learning Mila is only 20 (maybe close to 21) explains a lot.

This episode succeeds at laying the foundation for most of the main storylines, including Mila’s sense of entitlement and belief that her fashion skills are better than Hugo’s skills.
It’s entertaining to see her quinceanera but it would have been more interesting to see a more elaborate celebration.
Her party seemed kind of tame for the sense of wealth and entitlement adult Mila exhibits.
Additionally, see what she does to Hugo’s dress versus the original, he may be, in fact, the better designer.
Her creation seemed immature in not the best way, but she is 15 at the time so it make sense.

Plus, his reaction is one of the rare moments that he’s actually funny and not annoyingly aggressive.
Now, the most important element from “Box of Memories” is the reveal that Ignacio is Marcelas’s brother’s son. This finally gives us some context of his plan.
However, it’s not necessarily surprising. It seemed obvious that he was some sort of kin to Marcela. Nevertheless, the reveal adds some fun to Mila and Ignacio’s romantic entanglement.
It gives it even more of a forbidden quality (but Jeff still seems like he’ll make a comeback in the triangle department soon).
The other best part of “Box of Memories” is that we see that Betty and Armando were happy but not without issues. Issues that eventually bubble over into their breakup.

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues has been very smart and strategic in how it uses clips from the original series. This helps create an extra layer of backstory and explains some of the issues (to those who missed the original series).
“Box of Memories” reminds us that Armando and Betty’s issues go beyond marriage problems. It’s injected into their whole dynamic and history.
In order for them to truly repair their bond, they may need to address the initial pain and source of conflict.
“Least Expected Night” finally has Esteban and Betty act on their obvious attraction. A kiss may just be a kiss because it likely won’t go anywhere into a full relationship, based on his initial shock with the kiss, but it’s fun to see Armando have some genuine competition.
Esteban may prove shady in the end, but for now, he just seems like a good-looking, nice guy who seems attracted to her without her having to do a dramatic makeover.

This episode highlights how the show is taking the business aspect seriously. It’s enjoyable to see unions, production, striking, etc. incorporated, especially because it feels time-relevant.
Betty La Fea, the Story Continues may be a lighthearted romantic dramedy but it’s using its platform to say a lot about the issues today in the corporate world.
However, “Least Expected Night” feels like a bit of a filler episode. It continues the story but doesn’t seem to move it too forward.
Betty La Fea, The Story Continues continues to be a nice Friday treat.
