Ghosts: Rose McIver Set to Direct An Episode in Season 4

Ghosts, New York Comic Con, News

Rose McIver isn’t just Ghosts’ fantastic leading lady. This season, she is also a first-time director.

The announcement came during the Ghosts panel at New York Comic Con. With cast members McIver, Brandon Scott Jones, Asher Grodman, and Sheila Carrasco in attendance, the panel revealed McIver will make her TV directing debut on the show this season.

According to Deadline, McIver will direct an episode from Season 4 that has yet to be shot and will air sometime in 2025.

Additionally, McIver posted about the new gig on her social media, stating it was “something I am really excited about.”

The actress is no newcomer to TV. She headlined the paranormal comedy series iZombie on the CW for five seasons as Liv Moore. McIver also led Netflix’s trilogy of beautifully cringy A Christmas Prince films.

With four seasons under her belt as Sam on Ghosts, it’s about time we let this leading lady got to work her magic behind the camera.

And historically, actors-turned-directors can deliver some of the most memorable and unique episodes. Most recently, Ayo Edebiri directed The Bear Season 3 Episode 6, “Napkins,” which is widely considered a standout of the season.

During its NYCC panel, Ghosts also delivered casting news for the upcoming hour-long Christmas episode, airing on December 19

Sakina Jaffrey (The Mindy Project) and Bernard White (Silicon Valley) will guest star as Jay’s parents, Champa and Mahesh. The couple visit Woodstone for “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 / A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 2.”

The 2-part episode logline states: “A leaky water heater mishap threatens to ruin holiday plans as Sam and Jay prepare to host Jay’s hard-to-please dad Mahesh, difficult-to-impress mom Champa, and sister Bela.”

According to Variety’s panel coverage, Jay’s mother “has much less patience for her daughter-in-law Sam, whom she blames for Jay moving far away from them. Champa runs the family’s text chain, known as the ‘Core Four,’ which Sam is desperate to be allowed onto.”

And Jay’s father “secretly respects his son’s culinary talents, but holds out hope that Jay will become an engineer instead of relying on the high-risk businesses of the B&B and the restaurant.”

Creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman first revealed the return of the holiday special at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Jay, attended the panel and teased that Sam’s strained relations with his side of the family will complicate things for the couple during this visit.

“It’ll be really stressful for Sam,” Ambudkar confirmed. “Sam and Jay’s mother have this strange, antagonistic relationship where Sam’s not in the family group chat for some reason.”

“So, it’s going to be a major chance for Sam to either prove herself to Jay’s family or, more importantly, for Jay’s family to accept these two people for who they really are and in the unconditional love that they clearly had for each other.”

Ghosts airs Thursdays at 8:30c/7:30c on CBS.
