Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Episodes 3 and 4 Recap: Another Double Elimination!
After skipping a week due to the Vice Presidential Debate, Dancing with the Stars aired two back-to-back episodes this week, ending with a double elimination. Both episodes also brought in special guest judges, for better or worse.
Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Episode 3, “Soul Train Night,” aired Monday, with the dancers performing to Soul Train classics and Rosie Perez joining the judges’ table.
Then, Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Episode 4, “Hair Metal Night,” aired at its normal time with guest judge Gene Simmons helping score the routines.

Here are a few of the highlights from the competition this week:
Phaedra and Val kicked off “Soul Train Night” with a high-energy quickstep to “Think” by Aretha Franklin. It was a fun routine that had a few flaws but ultimately earned a score of 30/40 for the night.
Brooks and Gleb performed a Rumba that, given the developing relationship they haven’t been shy about, was ultimately underwhelming. That is, even though Derek Hough claimed their performance made him pregnant! They earned a score of 28/40 for the night.

BROOKS NADER, GLEB SAVCHENKO
Chandler and Brandon topped the night with their Cha Cha to “It’s Tricky,” ending Soul Train night on a definite high note. They earned a score of 36/40.
Hair Metal Night, somehow, brought even better costumes and wigs than Soul Train night, and it had equally fun performances.
Danny and Witney danced a powerful Paso Doble to “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi, though it had a few fumbles.

DANNY AMENDOLA, WITNEY CARSON
Stephen and Rylee danced a Foxtrot to “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake, and Stephen was praised for how well he improved and worked on the things the judges asked him to. They earned a score of 32/40 for the night.
Dwight and Daniella managed a major comeback from their routine on Monday’s episode, which was ultimately pretty rocky. Carrie Ann said he was “back in the game” after Paso Doble to “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith. The other judges agreed.
Joey and Jenna ended the night with a tango that Derek said was one of the best tangos he’d seen from a male contestant ever. They earned a score of 36/40 for the night.
The scores from both nights were combined this week, and note that the totals are also high because there were four judges at the table each night. So, the total points possible for each couple this week was 80.
Viewers were able to vote on both nights as well, and the votes and judges’ scores from both nights were combined to determine yet another double elimination. The couples eliminated this week were Eric Roberts and Britt and Reginald VelJohnson and Emma. Those eliminations were not necessarily surprising, but they were definitely emotional.
Here are this week’s scores (combined for both nights):
- Joey Graziadei and Jenna: 70
- Chandler Kinney and Brandon: 69
- Jenn Tran and Sasha: 62
- Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee: 62
- Brooks Nader and Gleb: 61
- Danny Amendola and Witney: 60
- Phaedra Parks and Val: 56
- Dwight Howard and Daniella: 52
- Ilona Maher and Alan: 46
- Eric Roberts and Britt: 46
- Reginald VelJohnson and Emma: 42
