Criminal Minds: Evolution Renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+

Criminal Minds: Evolution received an early Season 3 renewal from Paramount+.

The news comes before the show’s sophomore season premieres. As previously reported, Criminal Minds: Evolution will make its two-episode season premiere tomorrow, Thursday, June 6, on Paramount+. The 10-episode season will then be released weekly. 

The newly-renewed third season will go into production later this year.

The show’s second season picks up after Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 10, “Dead End,” which streamed on Paramount+ in February 2023. The FBI’s elite Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) team investigates the deadly mystery of GOLD STAR.

They are “met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the BAU’’ own backyard. The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences,” per the season’s synopsis. 

Paramount+ renewed Criminal Minds: Evolution for Season 2 in January 2023. “We’re thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution with the order of another season,” Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, shared.

“The series has always been a consistent top performer for Paramount+ and fans have quickly embraced this new season with its more serialized elements. There are still many dark twists and turns yet to come for the BAU this season and we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store,” Giles added.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 stars Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka with Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster. The season’s guest stars include Clark Gregg, Felicity Huffman, Liana Liberato, Paul F. Tompkins, Tuc Watkins, and Brian White.

Brewster celebrated the show’s renewal on X by writing, “WHEELS UP !!!” Meanwhile, Mantegna wrote on X, “I’m thrilled to announce that we will be doing another season of Criminal Minds Evolution.”

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios. Erica Messer (Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon also executive produce.

The series debuted with Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2, “Just Getting Started / Sicarius,” in November 2022. Meanwhile, the original Criminal Minds aired on CBS for 15 seasons from 2005 to 2020.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 premieres on Thursday, June 6, on Paramount+.
