Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11 Review: I Think There is Something You’re Not Telling Me

Chicago Med, Reviews

Every episode of Chicago Med tells several stories at once, but one always stands out the most. On Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11, “I Think There is Something You’re Not Telling Me,” it is Ripley’s storyline that stays with us.

His past has been a key component of his storyline since his first appearance. His past experiences with Charles and his issues as a teenager always seemed to be involved in one way or another.

However, as the episodes passed, we got to know him better, and his relationship with Charles helped to heal old wounds. But it all comes rushing back to him as Asher asks about his past, and Pawel’s lawyer brings it up during the deposition.

Ripley has had immense character growth since joining Chicago Med, but he still has issues with who he was in the past. Every time Asher asks about it, he deflects with a joke or sarcastic comment — he goes as far as saying his childhood photos burned in the great Chicago fire.

Still, his past finds ways to continue to sneak through the cracks and constantly remind him of who he used to be. As Sully and his girlfriend show up at the ED, Asher has access to a part of his story that he was hiding.

Even though Sully’s girlfriend doesn’t give her any specific details, she allows Asher to have an insight into his life. If the two start dating, wouldn’t it be fair for him to share his past with her?

It seems Ripley really likes Asher and might be afraid his history will steer her away. However, if there is someone who can understand a problematic past, it is Asher.

Sully’s presence in the hospital isn’t the only way in which his past is back to haunt him on Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11, “I Think There is Something You’re Not Telling Me.”

During the deposition, Pawel’s lawyer asks questions about his education and why there are some gaps in it. As viewers, we know it is because he was being treated in the institution where he met Charles, but Ripley isn’t ready to share that yet.

The moment we see him angrily kicking a trashcan, we can understand he is upset this has once again been brought up. Of course, Charles witnesses this moment, allowing Ripley to open up about his feelings slightly.

Charles asking Goodwin to encourage Ripley to settle the lawsuit is likely his way of protecting him and making up for his past mistakes. Ripley’s first conversations with Charles about his past had a weight on the psychiatrist.

He has become aware of the way in which the medication and the treatment affected Ripley, and nowadays, he is doing everything in his power to make up for that and ensure that Ripley feels okay at his job without the need to explain himself for who he used to be.

This relationship has been great to watch on Chicago Med Season 9 because it has allowed them to grow as people and professionals.

Someone else who has experienced growth and is now trying to share that is Archer. On Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11, “I Think There is Something You’re Not Telling Me,” he gets to work closely with Johnson, witnessing behavior he used to be guilty of.

Johnson is eager to prove himself worthy of the trauma fellowship, and that means he is putting his career before his well-being, jeopardizing his health and the care given to patients.

Archer used to do that, so he understands better than anyone what it feels like to know you need to slow down, even if that means an opportunity being taken away from you. However, his conversation with Johnson on the matter shows how far he has come and why he is in charge of the ED.

Hopefully, Johnson understands where this advice comes from and uses the time to care for himself. He has proven he can handle the fellowship, but he must show he is capable of taking care of himself.

This is certainly just the beginning of his career at the ED.

Even though the season is coming to an end, Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11, “I Think There is Something You’re Not Telling Me,” introduces yet another new character. She is nervous, doesn’t know where to stand, and fumbles her chance at working with Archer.

She gets the opportunity to work with Maggie and Charles, but that isn’t enough to make us like her or want her to stick around. If the plan is to keep this new character on, we hope the next episodes give us more details regarding who she is.

One thing is clear: Chicago Med will use any opportunity to introduce new characters, leaving us wondering what will happen next.
