The Monsterverse lives! Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+.
Showrunners and co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction will executive produce the show’s second season. The streaming service also announced plans for multiple spinoff series from Legendary Entertainment.
The global success Monterverse series made its two-episode debut with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 Episodes 1-2, “Aftermath / Departure,” on Friday, November 17, 2023. The show’s first season concluded with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 Episode 10, “Beyond Logic,” in January.

The Apple TV+ series takes place after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans on Godzilla (2015). Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows siblings Cate (Anna Sawai) and Kentaro Randa (Ren Watabe) in “their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization,” Monarch.
Their quest leads them to Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell) “in the 1950s and half a century later when Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows,” per the show’s synopsis.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters also stars Kiersey Clemons, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowsk.
“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds, and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt, and the incredibly gifted and talented cast and creative team,” Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+ said.

“We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse,” Wandell added.
Apple TV+ has struck a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, including Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 and the aforementioned spinoff series from the monstrously successful franchise.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, and Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind executive produce the show’s upcoming second season. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.
Toho licensed the rights to Legendary Entertainment for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.
