Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 3 Review: Safe Harbor
Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 3, “Safe Harbor,” brings happiness and an engagement ring to the Adam and Kim shippers.
After previous engagements, a called off wedding, and the loss of their baby, the couple seems to finally be on the right track. The proposal is sweet and short but fits their relationship perfectly.
Kim is saying she needs the family they have created, and Adam promises to keep that alive for her by asking her to take the next step with him. Hopefully, this time, they will make it to the wedding bells.

When portraying stories about immigrants, shows must do it with respect and care. Even though the storyline seems to be going against the immigrants in the sanctuary city of Chicago, it is nice to see Kim Burgess fighting to bring them the justice they deserve.
From the very beginning of the episode, we know Gabriela is going to be involved because she is the only person we see say hello to Kim on her way into the district. Whatever comes next will absolutely involve her.
That is confirmed once we find out Gabriela is the only one who can testify against Danny and say he was the one who assaulted her friend. Without her testimony, Danny would have been set free.
Because the immigrants don’t have any papers, they have no power or rights. That is why Gabriela asks Kim for papers in exchange for her testimony.
We see that Kim understands the importance of papers because she is willing to use her own money to buy them illegally.

At first, Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 3, “Safe Harbor,” makes us believe Danny is a good cop. He speaks Spanish to communicate with the immigrants and tries to show Kim how the district works.
When he asks Voight to join the investigation, we belive he wants to help because Raquel died in his arms. Kim gives the okay, and it seems as if he could be a good addition to the team.
However, as the episode goes on, we discover Danny had other motives to join the Intelligence Unit.
It is the moment he shoots the suspect in front of Kim for no reason that we realize he might be the bad guy. As Kim says, she was connecting with the suspect, and he was about to lower his gun.
Why does he shoot him? To keep him from talking as, we later find out, he had met with the suspect and orchestrated the driveby shooting.
Even though we have seen in the past what it means for this team to go after another cop, Kim doesn’t hesitate to do what is right, even for those that feel they have no voice in this country.

The episode itself feels like an ode to Kim Burgess.
It is the perfect example of how far she has come as a cop. She once was the woman Voight was hesitant to bring to the Intelligence Unit, but now he looks to her to corroborate someone can join the team or letting them know she is running point.
When Kevin tells a suspect, “Call her b*tch again,” it is a reminder of how deep their friendship runs. No matter where they go or what case they are working, they will always have each other’s back.
This is proof that Kim Burgess has always been loyal and has earned the respect of everyone on her team.
And to top it all, she ends the episode engaged to the love of her life.
She has been such an important part of the team that watching her thrive in her personal and professional lives leaves us viewers feeling the kind of happiness we always seek to experience when watching our favorite characters evolve.

Besides having done an amazing job at highlighting how great Kim Burgess is, Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 3, “Safe Harbor,” continues to prove the editing of the show is quite excellent.
While some shows may drop the ball in their continuity, Chicago P.D. surprises us with great transitions between scenes.
On this episode, for example, one scene finishes with Voight watching Burgess walk away and the following scene starts with Voight walking into the office where Burgess is working.
Those little details are the ones that excite audiences and make every part of the episode feel like an important part of the puzzle.
