Chicago P.D. Season 13 Episode 10 Review: Faith

Chicago P.D., Reviews

Chicago P.D. Season 13 Episode 10, “Faith,” welcomes back the old Torres. The Torres we had before Gloria and her death. The Torres who trusts his instincts, knows how to hold his own, and puts his heart and soul into an investigation.

It is rewarding for fans to see this Torres back, because it gives his character the complexity and roundness we knew were there from the beginning. Seeing him from the very beginning of the episode take control of the case by explaining to Imani what his research had uncovered and walking through the scene again is a clue for what’s to come.

The Torres we see on this episode is one he can be proud of, and one Voight is clearly proud of too. In the end, he congratulates Torres for a job well done, understanding that he has slowly come back to himself and regained the confidence he should have never lost.

This isn’t the first time the Intelligence Unit has had to go against one of their own. We saw in the past how Kevin speaking up against a dirty cop affected him and the entire unit; nobody wanted to help them.

That is why Voight tells them that in order to move in on Foster, they must gather all the evidence. Instead of fighting it or going against this, Torres dives deeper into the case, showing the maturity he had been lacking not too long ago.

Torres goes back to the crime scene, looks at the crime scene photos, and tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together. He does the groundwork and digs into the smallest of clues to make sure that Foster is caught the right way. He owes it to the victim, but he also owes it to himself to prove he is exactly where he should be.

Ironically, the episode ends in a church, combining Torres’s faith in himself and the faith placed in the lord he is supposed to follow. Whether this resolution brings him closer to that faith is yet to be decided, but it has definitely brought him closer to the faith he should have in himself.

Torres isn’t just a good officer; he is a good man. His heart, soul, and care go into every case because he doesn’t want anyone treated the way he was.

Besides Torres’s incredible work in the case, what stands out on Chicago P.D. Season 13 Episode 10, “Faith,” is the chemistry and the newfound bond between him and Imani.

Up until this point, viewers had only seen Imani working alongside Voight. While she partnered with Kevin for a split second, she had never had the opportunity to work one-on-one with anyone else on the team. It makes perfect sense that it happens with Torres.

Imani and Torres give off the same vibe. They are rough around the edges, but with a huge, caring heart that carries them through every single case they work. In each other, they probably see a reflection of who they are and how well they fit (and sometimes doubt they do) within the unit.

She offers her help even off-hours because she knows he needs it. The same way she worked Julie’s case until the very end, she understands that is what Torres needs to do with this murder. And she understands his pain and relief when they finally find Dominique’s mother in the pickup truck.

Hopefully, Chicago P.D. will continue to explore this relationship and the connection they have. While it does not need to be romantic, it could navigate the same water that Atwater and Burgess do. Friendship, that irreplaceable bond, is just as important on a show like this.
