The Girls on the Bus, starring Melissa Benoist, is coming to Max next month.

Inspired by Amy Chozick’s 2018 memoir Chasing Hilary and her experiences as a political reporter, the Max Original drama series follows four female journalists on the campaign bus with multiple presidential candidates.

The Girls on the Bus makes its two-episode debut on Thursday, March 14, on Max, with new episodes being released weekly until the finale on May 9.

The Girls on the Bus comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and creators Amy Chozick and Julie Plec. Benoist stars as Sadie McCarthy, with Carla Gugino as Grace, Natasha Behnam as Lola, and Christina Elmore as Kimberlyn.

The series also stars stars Brandon Scott, Griffin Dunne, Mark Consuelos, and Scott Foley.

“Things are really dark right now, in politics, in media, whether it’s layoffs or distrust in media and I think our show is an antidote, an escape. There’s a lot of hope and heart in it,” Chozick told Entertainment Weekly.

“The other thing I’m really proud of is I think it really celebrates journalism,” Chozick added.

“It makes the job look cool and it shows you how hard it is to devote your life to the road. It’s prestigious, but it’s not glamorous,” Chozick continued.

“It’s finally happening! After a nearly 5 year journey to the screen and the wonderful work of @amychozick and Rina Mimoun,” Julie Plec wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Chozick and Plec serve as executive producers alongside showrunner Rina Mimoun, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Marcos Siega. Executive producer Jesse Peretz directed the pilot. Benoist serves as a producer.

Series description: The Girls on the Bus invites viewers to hit the campaign trail alongside four female journalists, each of them different in their reporting styles and personalities. The story centers on Sadie McCarthy, a journalist who romanticizes a bygone era of campaign reporting and scraps her whole life for a shot at covering a presidential candidate for a paper of record. Sadie joins the bus and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace, Lola, and Kimberlyn. Despite their differences, the women become a found family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in town – the battle for the White House.
