Jayden Rey Not Returning for ‘The Conners’ Season 6
The Conners family will be missing a member when it returns.
Jayden Rey will not return to the Roseanne spinoff as a series regular in Season 6. As previously reported, The Conners returns with its sixth season on Wednesday, February 7, at 8/7c on ABC.
TV Line exclusively reported the news about Rey’s departure from the comedy series. Rey has played DJ’s daughter, Mary, since The Conners debuted in 2018.
The same report includes the detail that Rey only appeared in five of the 22-episode Season 5.
Set in Lanford, the Roseanne spinoff series sees the iconic family — Dan, Jackie, Darlene, and Becky — face the daily struggles of parenthood, dating, financial pressures, and aging in working-class America, per its synopsis.
“Through it all — the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns — with love, humor, and perseverance, the family prevails.”
Rey’s exit comes more than a year after Michael Fishman, who portrayed DJ Conner, left the series ahead of its Season 5 premiere.
Maya Lynne Robinson played DJ’s wife and Mary’s mother, Geena, during the first season and appeared on The Conners Season 3 Episode 20, “Two Proposals, a Homecoming and a Bear.”
Though ABC did not comment, Deadline reports that even though Jayden Rey will not return as a series regular, “the door remains open for possible guest appearances.”
The Conners returning cast includes John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Sara Gilbert as Darlene Conner, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner-Healy, Emma Kenney as Harris Conner-Healy, Ames McNamara as Mark Conner-Healy, and Jay R. Ferguson as Ben Olinsky.
Katey Sagal recurs on the comedy series as Louise Goldufski.
The Conners Season 5 Episode 22, “The Grad Finale,” aired on May 3, 2023, on ABC.
As previously reported, ABC renewed The Conners for Season 6 in May 2023.
