Annika Season 2 Episode 6 Review

Reviews

If I didn’t know otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to tell you that Annika Season 2 Episode 6 was a season finale. The previous case was more sensational, and this whole hour leaves us waiting for follow-up.

True, the murder of a former police detective via a fire on her houseboat is personal for Annika on several levels, but since none of our characters knew the dead woman personally, we need to look to other tactics to get us emotionally involved.

The main method is also the one thing that does make this feel like a season finale. The killer has been posing as Morgan’s driving instructor and abducts her just as the case seems to wind down. That’s one way to make sure we care about the outcome.

Thankfully, Morgan has learned a thing or two about saving herself. Making an excuse about her “time of the month”, she’s allowed to leave for a pharmacy, where she waits until the man panics and flees, taking her phone with him.

She really is her parents’ daughter—an especially apropos statement given that she finally learns Michael is her father. Considering the highly public way Annikka let him know the truth, this revelation is comparatively anticlimactic.

Morgan’s reaction is fairly mundane as well. She’s smart enough that I wonder whether she’d already begun to suspect the truth. I’m glad it’s not something we have weighing our shoulders just before making us wonder whether she’ll survive the hour.

Elsewhere, there are further shakeups in Annika’s home life. Her father, who has been staying with them, announces he’s not leaving her mother after all, but will instead head home to try to make things work. In his stead, Jake has asked to move in.

Annika reacts to this with her usual grace at first, leaving me worried. Thankfully, it takes only a little persuasion for her to agree. Morgan is fully on board, and though it’s come together quickly, I’m rooting for their renewed chance at a future.

Then there are the things that leave us hanging. The first is Blair, who is going into labor when we last hear from her. It’s bad enough that we don’t get to see the marine squad’s tiniest new member, but we don’t even get any updates.

The other cliffhanger is more pressing. Our suspect has vanished by the time Morgan is found alive and well and remains on the run when the episode ends. The closing scenes imply there are some deeper connections there—like ones to Annika’s dad.

The show has not yet been officially renewed, but with an ending like this, I sure hope season three is already planned. I want to see Blair’s baby, and we all need to see the man who threatened our title character’s daughter come to justice.

What else do you want to see play out assuming we get more time with these characters? Many of the plots we care about most have only just begun—and there’s a lot more classic literature to reference along the way.

  • That ending ! Wow! I was feeling sorry for Annika’s dad , and I thought she treated him harshly. But not at the end! I can’t wait to see how the story line is handled.
Thanks for your great review !

  • I wish we didn’t have to wait until next year to find out what happens with the Magnus storyline! I had to rewind the ending twice, I just didn’t see that coming. I thought I read this show HAD been renewed, if not, I sure hope they do. Great show, with an excellent cast.
