The Crown Season 6 to Premiere in Two Parts on Netflix

News, The Crown

The Crown‘s sixth and final season will premiere in two parts on Netflix later this year.

The Crown Season 6 Part 1, consisting of four episodes, premieres on Thursday, November 16, and Part 2, consisting of the show’s final six episodes, premieres on Thursday, December 14, per TV Line.

Before announcing the final season’s premiere date, Netflix’s TUDUM revealed that Season 6 would feature Charles and Camilla’s wedding, which occurred at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Netflix’s TUDUM also unveiled a first look at Ed McVey as Prince William and Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton in April 2023.

Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards are to portray Princes William and Harry in earlier episodes of the final season, with Luther Ford taking over as Harry later in Season 6.

The Crown Season 6’s features Imelda Staunton reprising her role as Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Claudia Harrison as Princess Anne, and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles.

Bertie Carvel will take on the role of Tony Blair, with Salim Daw as Mohamed al-Fayed and Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed. Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards will portray Princes William and Harry in earlier episodes, with Luther Ford taking over for the latter later in the season.

With all of this casting and events that span decades and a description of “A relationship blossoms between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences,” Netflix splitting The Crown Season 6 into two parts is understandable.

With two new posters, Netflix’s TUDUM revealed that The Crown Season 6 Part 1 will continue Princess Diana’s story, “with the first four episodes exploring the events surrounding her tragic death in 1997.”

The Crown Season 6 Part 2 will “see Queen Elizabeth II reflect on her reign and look ahead to a time when her successors will take the throne,” which the date announcement visually does by showing Stauton’s iteration walk through the history that includes Claire Foy and Olivia Colman’s take on the role over the last six seasons.

Foy and Colman’s voices come together in the quote, “The crown is a symbol of permanence. It’s something you are, not what you do. Some portion of our natural selves is always lost. We have all made sacrifices. It is not a choice. It is a duty.”

The date announcement ends with Stauton’s Queen Elizabeth asking, “But what about the life I put aside? The woman I put aside?”

In July 2020, Netflix announced the acclaimed drama series would end with its sixth season ahead of Season 4’s released in November 2020 and Season 5’s release in November 2022.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” writer and creator Peter Morgan said.

Ultimately, The Crown Season 6 will span the years of 1997 to 2005 during Queen Elizabeth’s reign.

The Crown Season 6 Part 1 premieres on Thursday, November 16, with Part 2 premiering on Thursday, December 14, on Netflix.
