Academy Award winner Brie Larson brings Elizabeth Zott from Bonnie Garmus’s novel to life in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry.

Premiering with two episodes on Friday, October 13 and set in the early 1950s, the show introduces Elizabeth as a scientist who takes a job as a host of the cooking TV show Supper at Six after she is fired from her lab. 

Lessons in Chemistry‘s trailer barely scratches the surface of the patriarchal world Elizabeth navigates as a woman in the scientific field, coming up against tables of older white men who cannot see her dedication, knowledge, and talent.

So, Elizabeth eventually takes her skills to the on-screen kitchen to teach housewives — and the men who will listen — more than recipes. Lessons in Chemistry‘s trailer teases as such with how Elizabeth says, “I stand with the overlooked workhorse of the kitchen, women and baked potatoes.”

The photos and promo videos below also reveal a significant romance for Elizabeth with Lewis Pullman’s character — and Six-Thirty the dog.

Lessons in Chemistry also stars Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Kevin Sussman, Patrick Walker, and Thomas Mann. Larson and Garmus both executive produce the show, which Lee Eisenberg showruns.

Series description: Set in the early 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott, whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.
