Only Murders Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Opening Night
Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 10, “Opening Night,” finds our trio ready to confront Ben’s killer. They’ve got a plan complete with a script and everything! Their goal is to get a confession (on tape).
It’s fun seeing Charles, Mabel, and Oliver plot out and execute their confrontation; it adds a bit of humor to what could’ve been a more serious or dramatic moment.
Seeing as how this isn’t the confession of the actual murderer, the humor works. Plus, it would have been too much if we had a super serious confrontation with Donna followed by a dramatic one with her son.

The two attacks being done by two different people have been obvious for a while, but knowing the twist is coming doesn’t dampen its effect. There’s enjoyment in knowing what our trio still needs to solve, waiting for them to figure it out while we attempt to beat them to the punch.
Only Murders in the Building knows that it can keep us entertained without relying on the twists being unpredictable.
It never works when a show banks on the twists to keep viewers engaged. Instead, the series understands that the characters and our trio’s relationships are what keep us coming back season after season.
We spent a lot of time watching Oliver and company rehearse for the play and then the musical, so it’s only right that the finale features a bit of the musical itself. It’s a lot of fun seeing everyone up on stage in costume, especially the crab people!

The suspense as the musical reaches its conclusion and Mabel confronts Cliff is masterfully done. Add in Cliff’s guilt-ridden hallucinations of Ben, and you cannot look away from your screen as the events unfold.
Only Murders in the Building proves that it can keep you on the edge of your seat when it wants to, and it picks its moment during “Opening Night” well.
Thankfully, a Season 4 has already been confirmed because that would have been a brutal cliffhanger to end on.

While we knew Charles wasn’t getting killed off, it’s obvious that Sazz isn’t the intended victim. A sniper waiting for her to enter Charles’ apartment instead of striking anywhere else Sazz might be is a bit too much of a coincidence.
This means that next season, our trio will actually be investing the attempted murder of Charles, which will be a bit of a change-up. Any theories on who would want Charles dead?
Stray Thoughts
- Tobert and Mabel haven’t known each other long enough to him to suggest moving cross country for him.
- Oliver does a superb job on stage! One day, Howard will get his chance.
- The parallel between Loretta and Donna helps Mabel piece things together quickly without seeming like too much of a stretch.
- Uma may have found a new friend to trash-talk people with! I’m happy for her.
- Loretta and Mabel’s fist bumps are so cute.
- Do you think rent has taken a hit due to the surprising number of murders that have happened in the Arconia?
