All Rise Season 3 Episode 17 Review: I Will Not Go Quietly
We haven’t yet seen much of Louis Bravo except to stress out other characters. Now he steps into the driver’s seat—or at least first chair– on All Rise Season 3 Episode 17, “I Will Not Go Quietly.”
After a murder is committed in the wake of his “no cash bail” policy, his job and reputation are both on the line. He responds by getting involved in the case himself and not resting until he can put as much force behind the potential conviction as possible.
That alone sends us into muddy waters. Add in the fact that Emily is representing the defense, a man who insists that he didn’t mean to kill anyone and rightfully calls out a racist system, and the scenes that unfold are consistently tense.

Worse, Bravo has clearly been out of the courtroom too long. Mark is left saving their case, and though their victim and her husband are deserving of full justice, we’re all too aware that a young man will pay for his fatal mistake largely to preserve an image.
Nobody comes out of this unscathed. A grieving man gains only a semblance of comfort from a jury’s decision but lashes out at Emily, devastating her. Even when a verdict might be the one that is needed, there are times when nobody really wins.
While Lola is not the judge in this case, finally getting a break from both overseeing star trials and managing personal upheaval, she does still hear the case of a young woman who fled Texas to have an abortion, only to be tracked down for it.
Most guest characters are well-rounded on this show, but every so often we throw in someone who is just comically exasperating, as is the case with the prosecuting attorney who follows the young woman and attempts to apply laws outside her own jurisdiction.

With much of the hour devoted to a case that puts all involved through the wringer, it’s nice to see one that’s easier to root for. It’s a bit more lighthearted but not remotely frivolous, offering a pointed commentary on the current state of women’s rights.
This also doesn’t mean that Lola has an easy go of things. With a bit more time out of trial, she finally has a chance to hang out with Rachel. That means telling her friend about the kiss with Andre, which I’m honestly shocked wasn’t already known.
The revelation goes about as well as anyone could expect. Lola and Rachel seem to realize they’re both better off keeping the man well out of their lives. Is this confirmation that the closure we got in the previous episode will stick? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

We wrap up with something the show may or may not have even been able to get away with on CBS, with a big dose of second-hand embarrassment to boot. It starts with Amy feeling sudden maternal instincts and getting tested at her OB-GYN.
She also needs a sample from Mark, but Mark is of course very busy. We can all see where this is going. From him asking for “encouragement” to the results of Bravo rifling in his bag, there are just some things we don’t need to see.
We close the episode with a boozy ladies’ night.. From a cynical perspective, this levity can feel off-putting given the hour’s events, but it’s true to the survival skills of people who handle tragedy daily. I hope we keep that realism through the few episodes remaining.
