Everything We Know So Far About ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’
Spike is the hero in a world where Cordelia Chase is the Slayer in the upcoming Audible drama series, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story.
The sequel series reunites several original cast members, including James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter, for a brand new story set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Since the news was first announced earlier this week, we’ve learned more details about Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Here’s everything we know so far.
The premise:
Set 10 years after the events of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Series Finale, the spell that gave power to all potential Slayers persists. Spike is working undercover in Los Angeles with his old pal Clem when he meets feisty, rookie Slayer, Indira, who wants Spike to be her mentor.
However, the stakes intensify as Cordelia Chase emerges from an alternate reality where she alone is the Slayer, and Buffy Summers doesn’t exist. Cordelia enlists Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world…his ex, Drusilla.
Giles, Anya, Jonathan, and Tara also return, but through the years and the vastness of the multiverse, not everyone is who they used to be.
Writers and cast:
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is written and directed by Amber Benson and Chris Golden, and co-directed by Kc Wayland. Cast members include James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Head, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary, and Danny Strong.
The story is a “familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion and mischief.”
“I’m ecstatic to be back with my dear friends for this next chapter in the Buffyverse, as we take listeners on a familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion and mischief,” Marsters said in a statement.
“I’m excited for old and new fans to experience this beloved world of vampire slaying like never before, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling,” Marsters added.

Format and episode count:
There will be 9 episodes in the series, and the run time is about 8 hours in total. All episodes will be released at once.
Furthermore, writer Christopher Golden clarified on social media that this is not a podcast.
A note on SLAYERS: A BUFFYVERSE STORY.
It’s not a podcast, folks. That makes it sound like it’s a rewatch or a discussion. (Which I love, of course, but that’s not this.) This is a full-fledged, full-cast, full FX, audio drama series. Just so you know. 🙂— Christopher Golden (@ChristophGolden) September 14, 2023
When and how it was recorded:
Although most cast members recorded in the studio, Anthony Head did need to live stream from the U.K. Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was written and produced prior to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA‘s current strikes (though audiobooks and podcasts are not impacted by the strikes, regardless).
The story provides #JusticeForCordelia.
Charisma Carpenter shared what the project means to her on Instagram. She said it is a story “within a beloved universe that is truly of service to my character, Cordelia Chase.”
“If there was ever to be #justiceforcordelia this audio drama series told over 8 hours (in 9 episodes) on @audible provides it. And I’d very much like to lean into, amplify, and center that fact. After all, it’s ultimately why I agreed to be a part of it. Also, I believed it would be redemptive of so many things for both me and the fandom. Who, above all, deserve that.”

Cameos and other burning questions:
Slayers: A Buffyverse Series does not consider the comics. It only considers “TV continuity” according to Christopher Golden.
Additionally, listeners can expect some surprise cameos beyond the cast members announced as starring in the series. There will also be some mention of Buffy, as well as an explanation as to why she doesn’t exist in the alternate reality.
How to listen:
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story will be released October 12th on Audible. It is currently available for pre-order here.
