‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Cast Reunites for Spike-Centric Audible Series
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Universe lives on in a story set 10 years after the events of its series finale.
20 years after the show’s final episode aired, Audible’s Slayers: A Buffyverse Story reunites the hit show’s cast for a new adventure centered on James Marsters’ Spike. The next chapter of the supernatural story releases on Thursday, October 12.
Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported Marsters would reprise his role alongside Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia, Anthony Head as Giles, Juliet Landau as Drusilla, Emma Caulfield as Anya, Amber Benson as Tara, James Charles Leary as Clem, and Danny Strong as Jonathan.
The Audible series will welcome newcomer Laya DeLeon Hayes as the 16-year-old Indira Nunnally.
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story finds Spike deep undercover in Los Angeles, “convincing the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways,” per the official description. But when Indira compromises his cover, “Spike finds himself on baby-slayer-sitting duty once more.”
“While he attempts to track down a watcher for his eager new protégé, their paths collide with the veteran Slayer of a parallel reality where Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) never existed and Cordelia Chase is the one-and-only Slayer.”
“And Cordelia needs Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world… his old flame, Drusilla.”

TV Line also notes that audiobooks and podcasts are not impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA‘s current strikes, but Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was written and produced prior to the strikes.
Premiering in 1995, Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired its first five seasons on The WB, finishing its seven-season run on UPN by 2003.
The supernatural teen drama spawned a spinoff for David Boreanaz’s Angel in 1999 that aired for five seasons on The WB; Marsters reprised his role as Spike in 24 episodes.
“I’m ecstatic to be back with my dear friends for this next chapter in the Buffyverse, as we take listeners on a familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion, and mischief,” Marsters said, per Entertainment Weekly.
“I’m excited for old and new fans to experience this beloved world of vampire slaying like never before, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling,” Marsters added.
“Slayers: A Buffyverse Story offers a fresh, dynamic take on a cult-classic that takes listeners on a fun and nostalgic ride,” Rachel Ghiazza, Chief Content Officer at Audible, said.
“The all-star cast reprising beloved roles, as well as newcomers, bring to life a storyline that will entertain fans of the original series and pull in first-time Sunnydale visitors,” Ghiazza continued.
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was written by Benson and Christopher Golden and directed by Benson, Golden, and Kc Wayland. Audible will have a Slayers-themed activation all weekend at New York Comic Con, as well as a Slayers: A Buffyverse Story panel on Friday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m.
