STAR WARS: AHSOKA Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Part 4: Fallen Jedi

Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Part 4: Fallen Jedi

Ahsoka, Reviews

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn’t exist.

The action between Baylan and Ahsoka finally heats up with Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 4, “Part Four: Fallen Jedi.” Some big pieces finally fall into place, creating a sense of moving toward something instead of just building up the foundation of a story.

Between saber battles and physical combat, “Part Four: Fallen Jedi” gives viewers the best of what Star Wars offers.

This episode, written by Dave Filoni and directed by Peter Ramsey, starts us on a journey toward the bulk of the action and anticipation. This story arc has been promising since the premiere.

Sabine Makes the Ultimate Sacrifice

One of the big moments during this episode of Ahsoka is Sabine watching Baylan knock Ahsoka off the ledge during their battle. For anyone, seeing your mentor potentially die is going to be disconcerting, let alone someone like Sabine, who has lost everyone that matters to her.

It is upsetting that she would get the map and then hand it back to Baylan when she could take it and run. Unfortunately, he promises her Ezra, which is what she’s in this for in the first place.

As this season has already set up, Sabine isn’t physically and mentally at her strongest right now. So, when Baylan promises her contact with Ezra while reminding her that she is otherwise alone in the galaxy, Sabine will hesitate regarding her mission.

On the surface, it might seem like Sabine is just giving up and giving in, but ultimately, she is doing what she needs to survive. In her eyes, Ahsoka is gone, and with her goes Sabine’s protection in their pursuit of answers.

She knows that to survive on her own, she needs to be more in touch with the force. Without that, she is essentially dead in the water, so going with Baylan is her way of staying alive and getting to Ezra.

Hera Being Hera

One of the great things about Star Wars is when a character takes their orders and defies them anyway. It’s kind of what makes fans of the franchise love characters like Han Solo and now Hera.

Ahsoka has already established that Hera is the voice of reason whenever Ahsoka and Sabine get too much in their heads. So, now they are in over their heads on Seatos, and Hera has decided to take matters into her own hands.

It’s a moment of jumping out of our seats and cheering because she is the perfect person to lead a team to assist Ahsoka. If only she weren’t a tad too late.

Even better, Hera is showing her son that sometimes bureaucracy gets in the way of doing what is right. It’s the perfect lesson for him to continue down a road of non-traditional Jedi, as Huyang would put it.

They put up a good fight, and while Baylan, Morgan, and Shin may have gotten away with Sabine as their prisoner, Hera isn’t one to back down. She will brush herself off, probably find a way to help Ahsoka, and then team up to hunt down Baylan’s course.

It’s the level of action this show has desperately needed since the premiere, and we are finally getting it. Now, the story can move beyond character-building and get to the meat of what they are after.

Ahsoka Proves, Once Again, Her Unquestionable Strength
STAR WARS: AHSOKA
(L-R): Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) in Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: AHSOKA, exclusively on Disney+. ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved.

The highlight of Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 4, “Part Four: Fallen Jedi,” isn’t just Sabine’s decision or Hera’s heroism; it’s also Ahsoka’s fighting skills.

For years, it’s been well-known that Ahsoka Tano is one of the greatest force-sensitive Jedis to come out of the order. There is a reason Anakin trained her and became as one with the force as she has.

There is an effortless elegance to the way Ahsoka wields her weapon and dances around her opponent to defeat them. She moves with such precision and grace that I would think she is performing a dance if she wasn’t holding double sabers.

This especially comes out when she’s facing Baylan so she can swing a saber in one hand and use her other hand to manipulate the force. No other Jedi in history has had her skill, focus, and determination level.

Even if she has technically left the Jedi Order behind, the lessons they taught her have never left her. This strength and will give us hope when we see her go over the edge that she will be okay.

Of course, we still have anxiety because it’s not easy for Ahsoka to be overtaken by anyone, let alone Baylan. Then again, Sabine shows up, and Ahsoka shows her heart when she allows this to distract her from the fight.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Hello Snips. Gosh, hearing that immediately sent me over the edge.
  • Seeing Anakin and then having the Vader Theme play — CHILLS
  • Huyang will have a full-on meltdown when he realizes that Sabine has been taken and Ahsoka is out of commission, all because they split up.
  • Marrok just disintegrating into vapor was kind of cool, not gonna lie.
