Miracle Workers: End Times Season 4 Episode 8 Review: Children of Women
This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn’t exist.
Once again, Miracle Workers: End Times Season 4 Episode 8, “Children of Women,” manages to squeak a funny episode in amongst the disjointed storytelling.
While this episode does nothing to bring together all the storylines we’ve had so far, it does give viewers something to laugh about. Whether it’s Freya and Sid dealing with an unexpected reaction to their unexpected pregnancy or Tai and Scrapps going back in time to do an escape room.
No matter what, this episode is a reminder, once again, of what makes Miracle Workers such a great comedy series.
Freya and Sid, Parents-to-be

In a turn of events I certainly wasn’t expecting, Freya is now expecting a baby. The way she is nervous and unsure from the start, but Sid is happy makes a good point for how their characters have been presented this season.
There has been a lack of development for either of them beyond the 2-dimensional beings they are presented as in the first episode, but in this situation, that works out for the best. It becomes a funny battle of wills between Freya’s disinterest and Sid’s overwhelming excitement about their news.
The push and pull between them the whole episode comes out so flawlessly that you can’t help chuckling at a few of their moments. Most significantly, when Freya makes Sid promise not to tell anyone, only to have him almost immediately spill the beans to Mr. Rubinstein.

The whole cult of townspeople who want to worship Freya’s baby bump and treat her more as a vessel than an actual human is an interesting commentary on how we treat pregnant individuals. It’s as if the whole world sees a baby bump and immediately feels they have grounds to touch it and give their opinion on parenting.
The funniest moment of the whole episode, though, comes when Freya and Sid reach an understanding of how people react differently to them about the baby. When Sid turns around dressed as Freya and says, “Mommy isn’t home,” and then Freya confuses Mr. Rubinstein with her disguise as Sid, the laughter comes second nature.
What’s even better is Daniel Radcliffe delivers his lines as FreyaSid with absolute seriousness, which can’t be taken the least bit seriously. Meanwhile. Geraldine Viswanathan somehow makes her SidFreya work to a tee, somehow nailing Radcliffe’s mannerisms and the way he delivers lines.
Tai and Scrapps – Escape Room Extraordinaires

One of the relationships that is implied to be a good one but hasn’t actually had an opportunity to flourish is the one between Tai and Scrapps. Their mutual bond with Freya implies they are close, as does their limited interaction time during Miracle Workers: End Times Season 4 Episode 3, “The MatriXXX.”
Unfortunately, beyond that, viewers haven’t been given much of an opportunity to get to know their friendship. That is why “Children of Women” is a great moment for them.
Tai is resistant to Scrapps calling him Uncle but is still willing to put up with his ridiculous shenanigans while they go in search of someone who is likely to bring on the biggest war the world has ever seen. It’s an awkward setup at first because if anyone is going to stop a war, our money wouldn’t have been on Tai or Scrapps, but stranger things have happened.

So, by the time they shirk their responsibility and go to an escape room instead, we believe in the storyline once more. The way both of them are unintelligent in different ways, neither of which is ever helpful when it’s them making decisions, has audiences rolling their eyes and laughing at the misfortune.
What’s even better is not only do they fail at their initial mission, they make it colossally ten times worse by allowing the man they are meant to defeat to use their time travel machine. Giving him the tools he needs to start the war to end all wars.
While this development is fun to see play out, it’s going to spell trouble for the final two episodes this season. It is a little late to be bringing in the problem, but that’s a discussion for another time.
