The Villains of Valley View Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Villain Number One Part One
The Villains of Valley View Season 2 Episode 1, “Villain Number One Part One,” starts immediately after last season’s cliffhanger.
Amy is stuck with the decision of how to move forward after the defeat of Onyx. Should she become the new leader of the villains, or should she return to everyday life in Valley View?

As with any difficult decision, Amy plays it smart and outsources the pros and cons to both sides of the scenario.
If she becomes the leader, her family can go back to their former lifestyle leaving behind their life in hiding. But that also means Amy would be throwing away her friendship with Hartley and anyone else she has formed a relationship with.
Going to others for advice can be helpful in desperate times. Keeping your ears open to different viewpoints is never a bad idea. Sadly, when nobody tells us what we want to hear, we decide we should instead do our own thing simply out of spite.
Of course, this is precisely what Amy does.
Amy is hard-headed. She thinks she knows what’s best for herself and others, even though Season 1 says otherwise. Amy decides she must prove the doubters wrong by doing the exact opposite of what they believe.
Action and laughter ensue.
Wouldn’t you know it, five seconds after teleporting to Centropolis things begin to go haywire. Amy is forced to make a quick decision about how to deal with Onyx’s pet monster. At the time, the issue seems low pressure, after all, the thing is locked in a cage.
Eva: I’m so sorry, you’re just not ready.
As in real life, small issues can quickly turn into larger ones when not treated properly. Being nonchalant or flippant oftentimes bites us in the butt. Such is true when the creature escapes.
Honestly, Amy should come clean as soon as this happens. She should immediately go to her family and confess the dilemma she has created. But if a lesson is to be learned, it has to be learned the hard way.
The creature wreaks havoc (no pun intended) on Cenropolis, destroying whatever it can before following Amy back to Valley View. Our problems tend to follow us everywhere we go. We can try to escape or hide from what is coming for us, but it always ends up in our backyard, or in Amy’s case, the underground lair.

With the creature on her home turf, she must face it down with the help of her brother and Hartley, while also hiding the truth from Celia. Her somewhat simple issue has become compounded — putting innocent bystanders in danger.
When we try to avoid the inevitable, we only deny reality. Reality always comes to the surface sooner or later. Face it early on to keep negative outcomes at arm’s length.
Amy finally understands she needs to take this thing head-on along with Jake. There is no way to escape what is coming for her, and if she waits any longer, things will only get worse.
On the other side of the episode, Vic and Eva go to a parent/teacher conference to talk about Colby using his powers to avoid math class. Smart kid, I wish I could’ve done that.
Like Amy, Colby is avoiding his responsibilities.
His invisibility powers help him to go unseen at the most dire of times, allowing him to steer clear of the most difficult equations. Again, this seems brilliant when you’re Colby’s age, but as you get older, one realizes procrastination is never a friend.
I get a couple of good chuckles when Colby’s powers go erratic causing him to transform into a clown, and later on, a donkey. His slapstick comedy is always one of my favorite parts of the show.
Once the principal realizes something rather strange is going on, he begins an investigation into the Maddens family. Really, who can blame him, something isn’t adding up here.
In typical Colby fashion, he turns things around on the principal causing a watchful eye to fall on him instead. While fun, it kind of takes away from the moral of the story. Forcing your problem on somebody else isn’t the best technique and is far from responsible.
This episode works great as a season opener, dropping us off right where it left us and not missing a beat.
Oftentimes, season openers simply fill us in on what happened during the hiatus, allowing us to get reacquainted with the characters. Here, we continue the story the writers began to tell last year and learn how the family deals with the problems they were left with. It truly feels like an extension of Season 1.
Better yet, we are left with another cliffhanger and the introduction of a new villain. This leaves me satisfied but also excited to see where this season will take us next.
