‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ and ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Among 4 TV Series Canceled by Paramount+

News

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game, and Queen of the Universe have been canceled by Paramount+.

This news comes ahead of incorporating Showtime on the streaming service this upcoming Tuesday. The series “will be removed from Paramount+ as the conglomerate joins Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery in taking tax write-offs for underperforming series,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount+ canceled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies after one season, with its series finale being its season finale that streamed on June 1, and reversed the Season 2 renewal of Star Trek: Prodigy, an animated series in the Star Trek franchise targeted toward kids.

The Game, a revival of the comedy series that aired on The CW and BET, has been canceled after two seasons, as has the Graham Norton-hosted reality TV series Queen of the Universe. THR reports that all four TV series will be pulled from the service next week.

Deadline reports, “All of these titles will be removed from Paramount+ with the studios planning to shop some of them to rival broadcasters and streamers. The company will take a content impairment charge and is expected to reveal the financial impact at its next earnings.”

Star Trek: Prodigy will complete its post-production of Season 2. Aaron Waltke, a co-executive producer with Patrick Krebs on the series, took to Twitter, writing, “Obviously, there is not much I can say. Everyone on the cast and crew loves #StarTrekProdigy deeply.”

“I have noticed some misleading headlines, so all I can do is point to this particular part of the press release. We are completing season two on schedule and seeking a new home!”
