Ahsoka Sets August Series Premiere Date on Disney+
It’s official! Disney+ revealed that Ahsoka will make its series debut in August.
The new, original, live-action series from Lucasfilm will premiere on Wednesday, August 23, exclusively on Disney+. Ahsoka‘s eight-episode debut season will stream new episodes weekly.
The streaming service celebrated the news with a new TV spot for the show starring Rosario Dawson in the titular role that will air tonight during the NBA Finals Game 3. Along with that TV spot, Disney+ revealed three new photos from the upcoming season set after the Empire’s fall.
Per its synopsis, Ahsoka “follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”
Before Dawson’s live-action introduction as Ahsoka on The Mandolarion Season 2 Episode 5, “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” Ashley Eckstein originated the character’s on-screen presence in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars that debuted in 2008.
After Dawson’s appearance on The Mandalorian, Ahsoka reappeared on The Book of Boba Fett Season 1 Episode 6, “Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger.”
The Disney+ series unveiled its first teaser trailer at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni confirmed Ahsoka would premiere in August.
Alongside Dawson, Ahsoka also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Mikkelsen voiced the same role on Star Wars Rebels, as did Tennant on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. As TV Line reports, Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise the role of Mon Mothma from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor on Ahsoka.
Though not included in that line-up, Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, which he portrayed on Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith in 2005.
Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck, wrote Ahsoka. Karen Gilchrist is a co-executive producer.
