The much-anticipated final season of Manifest offered plenty of twists and surprises, leaving the audience, and even the cast members, shocked by some of the details.

One of those cast members is J.R. Ramirez, who plays the role of Jared. We caught up with Ramirez on the red carpet during the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas to talk about the final season of the series and if he felt there was any timeline in which Jared and Michaela could have ended up together. (You can watch the full interview below.)

His answer to the question about Jared and Michaela was an honest “no.”

“She finds him in times of stress and pain, she loves to have him by her side in those times,” Ramirez said. “You come across people in this world where there’s a lot of love, but at the end of the day, you’re meant to come into each others’ lives to teach each other something and that’s that. And I feel like that’s what happened when these two beings.”

“There is so much love and appreciation, and they’ve grown and learned so much from each other, but I don’t think they’re meant to be.”

Ramirez said he was “shocked” by their ending, however.

“I honestly thought that there was going to be a happy ending for them, just because of everything they had gone through. Until about halfway through when I saw where they were going, with a specific someone else, and also hearing her talk about the lack of wanting a family. Once I heard that, I was like, this is all this man’s ever wanted. He wants a family. He wants that next step in life.”

For Ramirez, one of the most memorable parts of the series was when his character’s father was introduced. He was proud to bring “a little Latin culture to the show,” he said.

  • The thought of Manifest ending without Jared and Mikaela not being together forever seemed impossible to me. After watching things play out, especially the conversation between Mik and Jared in the tent at the end of the show made it all fall into place. I think that Jared was meant to be with Drea and have a family and Mik with Zeke. No matter what I think that Mikaela and Jared are soul mates.
