Jesse Spencer Returning to ‘Chicago Fire’ Amid Taylor Kinney’s Absence
Matt Casey is coming back to Chicago!
Variety exclusively reported that Jesse Spencer will reprise his role on Chicago Fire in an upcoming Season 11 episode.
Spencer’s return will occur on Chicago Fire Season 11, Episode 18, and TV Line confirms that details about his return are still under wraps.
Spencer’s exit and return — and return, again — isn’t the only shake-up happening at One Chicago. As previously reported, Chicago Fire co-creator and co-showrunner Derek Haas is leaving the One Chicago Franchise, as well as Wolf Entertainment.
Moreover, Matt Casey’s arrival in the Windy City comes when Kelly Severide is missing from it. As previously reported, Taylor Kinney is taking a temporary leave of absence from the firefighting drama.
Chicago Fire Season 11, Episode 14, “Run Like Hell,” is Kinney’s last appearance before his absence. Chicago Fire Season 11, Episode 15, “Damage Control,” reveals that Kelly went to an arson investigation training program in Alabama
Matt Casey and Kelly Severide last shared the small screen when Spencer first returned for Kelly and Stella Kidd’s wedding on Chicago Fire Season 10, Episode 22, “The Magnificient City of Chicago.”
That episode sees Matt and Brett Sylvie plan to try and make their long-distance relationship work, but the couple ends things during Chicago Fire Season 11, Episode 1, “Hold on Tight.”
After 200 episodes, Spencer left the show in 2021, with Chicago Fire Season 10, Episode 5, “Two-Hundred” moving Matt Casey to Oregon.
Upon realizing that the sons of his late friend need him on Chicago Fire Season 10, Episode 3, “Counting Your Breaths,” Matt decides to move to Oregon to support Ben and Griffin Darden. Matt also takes a three-year job at the Portland Fire Department.
Luckily, One Chicago fans don’t have to wait much longer to see what or who brings Matt Casey back to Chicago Fire.
