Jesse Spencer Returning to ‘Chicago Fire’ for the Season 10 Finale
We haven’t seen the last of Matt Casey on Chicago Fire.
According to TVLine, Jesse Spencer will reprise his role as Matt Casey for the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale, with his character returning for Stella and Severide’s wedding.
Derek Haas, co-showrunner, told TVLine, “We pretty much begged him, pleaded and offered him the moon so that he would come back and do the finale. But he’s the greatest and he was in even before we started all of that.”

“The character pledged he would be best man at Severide’s wedding. We’re so grateful to [Jesse] that he would come back and honor that pledge,” Haas added.
It certainly does make sense that Casey would return for that event — after all, how could he miss his best friend’s wedding?
It also sounds like Casey’s return will mean a pivotal moment for his relationship with Sylvie Brett. At the moment on Chicago Fire, the story has Brett visiting Casey in Oregon, but we know the long-distance relationship hasn’t exactly been easy.
Co-showrunner Andrew Newman stated that Casey’s return is coming at a “critical time in his relationship” with Brett, and that viewers will see there’s a “big question mark” in that relationship as well.

Newman also said the following when speaking to Variety: “They come back in after having been together for a week when Brett was visiting but they know that now they have to say goodbye again for an undetermined amount of time. That’s weighing heavily on them. When you go to a wedding with anybody, it brings up all those sorts of questions about your own future and your relationships. So they’re definitely going to be struggling with that.”
For most of the season, since Casey’s exit after the show’s 200th episode, we’ve heard plenty of mention of Casey through Brett. His presence has definitely remained. It’s also not entirely surprising that the actor is willing to make a return.
In addition to the fact that we heard this return was a possibility earlier this month, Spencer stated last Fall that there there was “potential” for him to come back.
“I still am in Chicago right now. I’m not running off to Los Angeles or anything, although I might escape for a little bit of the winter,” Spencer said. “My home here with my wife is in Chicago, and so I’m still going to be here, but I’m just stepping back for right now.”
