The Residence Season 1 Synopsis and Additional Cast Revealed by Netflix
The previously-announced series, The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba (Orange Is The New Black), has announced further casting and full synopsis for Season 1.
Netflix broke the news about what fans of Shonda Rhimes and Uzo Aduba’s talents can expect from this exciting new matchup.
This new show is part of Shondaland’s deal with Netflix and centers on the happenings at The White House – similar to Rhimes’ ABC hit, Scandal. As previously reported, Shondaland Audio launched a rewatch podcast Unpacking the Toolbox, hosted by Scandal stars Katie Lowes and Guillermo Díaz.

The Residence is a “comedic whodunit revolving around the most disastrous state dinner in history,” according to Netflix’s TUDUM.
Season 1 delves into The White House’s upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs when a dead body is found.
Aduba will star as the lead, Cordelia Cupp, a detective for the Metropolitan Police Department, who is drawn into the mysterious death during a State Dinner. She has to sort through 132 rooms and 157 suspects to determine what happened and why.
While inspired by the non-fiction book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Bower, the show creates fantastical comedic drama unrelated to anything the book contains.

Further casting for The Residence has also been announced, per Variety, as the cast stacks up to support Uzo Aduba.
Among those announced are Andre Braugher (Brooklyn 99) as the White House chief usher, A.B. Wynter, Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) as President Morgan’s younger brother, and a bit of a screwup, Tripp.
Bronson Pinchot (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) joins as the White House executive pastry chef, as Didier Gotthard, and Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us) will play Jasmine Haney, a young and rising White House assistant usher.
Meanwhile, Edwina Findley (The Wire) will appear as Sheila Cannon, a White House butler. Molly Griggs (Dr. Death) joins the Netflix series as Lilly Schumacher, President Morgan’s social secretary.

Additionally, Ken Marino (Party Down) will portray Harry Hollinger, President Morgan’s oldest friend, closest advisor, and most trusted confidant. Al Mitchell (Stranger Things) is Rollie Bridgewater, head butler/maître d’. Dan Perrault (American Vandal) joins as Colin Trask, head of the presidential detail for the Secret Service.
Isaiah Whitlock, Jr. (Your Honor) will be Larry Dokes, chief of police, Metropolitan Police Department, and Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery) will appear as Marvella, White House executive chef.
Paul William Davies, a writer on Scandal, is the showrunner and executive producer of The Residence, while Liza Johnson will direct the first four episodes. Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are set to executive produce.
A premiere date for The Residence will be announced at a later date.
