The first six episodes of Season 1 kicked off in 2021, with The Nevers Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot,” premiering in April 2021.

While Deadline, who exclusively reported the news, shared that Season 1 Part Two didn’t have a premiere window, Variety revealed that The Nevers “was set to debut the back half of Season 1 next year on HBO.”

That same Variety report shares, “Sources close to the situation say it’s possible that the already finished batch of episodes — which were completed under new showrunner Philippa Goslett, who came on board following the exit of Whedon before the show even debuted — will air on another platform.”

Season 1 Part One concluded with The Nevers Season 1 Episode 6, “True,” in May 2021.

Described as a “genre-bending drama,” The Nevers picked up in Victorian London in August 1986. The city “is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing.” They are known as the Touched.

In order “to protect and shelter these gifted ‘orphans,'” Amalia True and Penance Adair “to face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.”

The news about The Nevers‘ cancelation comes on the heels of similar announcements from HBO and HBO Max.

Despite its Season 2 renewal, HBO Max canceled Minx and plans to remove its first and final season from the streaming service.

Additionally, HBO Max canceled its first original scripted series Love Life after two seasons. HBO Max will also remove the romantic comedy series from its catalogue.

The Nevers starred Ann Skelly, Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Pip Torrens, Ben Chaplin, Denis O’Hare, Amy Manson, Rochelle Neil, Zackary Momoh, Eleanor Tomlinson, Elizabeth Berrington, Anna Devlin, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Viola Prettejohn, Ella Smith, Vinnie Heaven, and Nick Frost.

The Nevers Season 1 Part One is executive produced by Joss Whedon, Bernadette Caulfield, Ilene S. Landress, Doug Petrie, Jane Espenson, and Philippa Goslett. Daniel S. Kaminsky co-executive produces.

At the time of publication, The Nevers is streaming on HBO Max.
