Despite earlier reports, Minx will not return for Season 2 on HBO Max.

Per Variety, “According to sources, the show was preparing to wrap production on its second season when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to scrap the show in its latest cost-cutting move.”

Minx‘s first season will also be pulled from HBO Max, but Lionsgate Television, the show’s producer, plans to shop the series to other outlets.

This news comes on the heels of similar announcements out of HBO Max, including, as Deadline reports, that the comedy series Gordita Chronicles will also be pulled from the streaming service.

Gordita Chronicles‘ showrunner Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz posted about the news on Twitter, adding that the series comes off HBO Max on Monday, December 19.

While there is no word on when Minx‘s first and now final season will leave HBO Max, TV Line confirms Lionsgate Television’s plans to find Minx a new home.

Per HBO Max’s logline, set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx follows Joyce, “an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women.”

Before the show’s recent cancelation, HBO Max renewed Minx for Season 2 in May. The comedy’s Season 1 (now series) finale debuted on the streaming service in April.

At the time of Minx‘s renewal, executive producer Ellen Rapoport spoke about the excitement to continue the series after such a warm reception.

“All of us at Minx have been blown away by the passionate response from audiences across the world, who have mashed-up, TikTok-ed, and fanfic-ed us into a renewal,” Rapoport shared.

“We are so grateful to our partners at HBO Max and Lionsgate for being true champions of the show, and for the opportunity to continue on this journey. Here’s to more chest hair, pussy bow blouses, and tasteful nudes in Season 2,” Rapoport added.

As for HBO Max, Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, spoke highly about the continuation of Minx.

“We are thrilled that the world of Minx has resonated in the way that it has. Showrunner and creator Ellen Rapoport, alongside the rest of our gifted creative team, masterfully deliver nuanced humor, with the cast executing her vision seamlessly,” Aubrey said.

“We can’t wait for fans to see what medicine Doug and Joyce hide in peanut butter for season two!” Aubrey concluded.

The comedy premiered with Minx Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2, “Not Like A Shvantz Right In The Face / Au revoir, le double dong,” in April 2022.

Minx starred Ophelia Lovibond, Jake Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya.

Rapoport, the creator and showrunner, executive produced Minx alongside Paul Feig and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment Ben Karlin and Rachel Lee Goldenberg, who also directed the pilot. Jake Johnson serves as a co-executive producer.

Minx is streaming on HBO Max.
