New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 5, “Grabby Hands,” is taking on the plight of nurses, and it looks all too real. Ripped from the headlines, this is going to be another rough one to watch.
These are typically the kinds of stories that make this show a cut above the rest. This, combined with tackling systemic health issues, is where this medical drama shines.

Lauren could be at a crossroads, and it’s been a long time coming. Her relationship with her family has always been fraught. Now, she might be ready to clear the air.
Elizabeth looks no worse off after having double carpel-tunnel surgery. This will probably never be brought up again or mentioned at all. It’s the New Amsterdam way.
Is Reynolds finally going to get an interesting story? Is he going to need someone else to make him interesting? It remains to be seen.
If anyone could handle the heartbreaking situation of a nurse involved in a malpractice case, it’s Max. These cases happen so often. It will be interesting to see what the show’s take on it is.
All hope for New Amsterdam may not be lost yet as it continues in its final season. As long as Iggy stops giving terrible advice to patients, there’s always still a chance for something heartbreakingly beautiful.

Episode description: Max endeavors to save a nurse who has become the subject of a dangerous malpractice probe. Reynolds goes the extra mile to help a group of patients who are being poisoned in their own building. Bloom makes a startling admission to her sister.
