Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3 Episode 4 Review: Carrion Comfort
Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3 Episode 4, “Carrion Comfort,” is a creepy episode perfect for the spooky season, complete with jump-scares, skin-crawling horror, and a werewolf mask.
Jenny and Beau’s investigation into a homicide is riddled with scary movie vibes and is presented accordingly. The plot of the murder gives the entire episode a Monster-of-the-Week energy that really jibes with this time of year.
The case, in this case, provides the majority of the creepiness on the episode, but the other two threads deliver plenty of frights in their own right, too.

From the shocking to the disturbing, “Carrion Comfort,” covers a wide range of the thriller and horror variety. The werewolf mask is sufficiently scary itself, but put in the slasher flick-style setting ups the fright factor.
The reveal of what the killer had been up to for years right in their own home is evocative of the psychological drama genre. While it has all the spookiness of an unsettling tale, the police work into it is over-explained and cliche. Not to mention the crime is solved within the episode which is too rushed for the motive to have any weight at the conclusion.

An investigation and storyline that is given more time to develop is the missing backpacker that kicked off Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3. Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) is hot on the trail (pun intended—it was bound to happen), and things get even hotter when Cormac Barnes (Luke Mitchell) joins her.
They stumble upon the body of the aforementioned hiker, this discovery seeming to speed up that thread of the narrative. I am curious to see where it goes from here, especially since Cormac is there.
Mama Sunny (Reba McEntire) has already warned him to keep mum about all the concerning goings-on at Sunny Day Excursions, like guest-camper Paige (Madalyn Horcher) disappearing into the woods under mysterious circumstances.

That mystery is the sole focus of Emily (Cree Cicchino) who is supposed to be bonding with her cagey stepdad, Avery (Henry Ian Cusick). The dead hiker and Paige have Walter (Seth Gabel) in common. The threads continue to get tangled in an entertainingly messy way that is fun to try and figure out.
The end of this episode brings Tonya (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and Donno (Ryan O’Nan) into the mix, too. Seeing them go undercover to look for Paige at Sunny Day is something I am immensely looking forward to. They make such a great team.

And what will Sunny do when she finds out that Walter is keeping Paige captive? McEntire has been showing glimpses of an unhinged Sunny Barnes and I am ready. She gets a really vicious gleam in her eye and seems about to snap at any moment.
I’d love to see it.
