Lindsay Lohan Returns to Rom-Coms in the Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Falling for Christmas’
Lindsay Lohan brings real cinema back in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming holiday rom-com, Falling for Christmas.
The movie, coming to the streaming service on November 10, stars Lohan as Sierra Belmont, “a newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress,” who gets into a skiing accident minutes after her proposal.
Falling for Christmas was written by Jeff Bonnett and Ron Oliver and directed by Janeen Damian.
Falling for Chstimas‘ trailer shows Sierra’s fiancé Tad, played by George Young, who manages to rescue the huge engagement ring but not the woman he intends to marry.
Enter Chord Overstreet’s Jake, “a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner” who helps Sierra after the accident when “she suffers from total amnesia.”
Leading up to Christmas, Jake and his “precocious daughter” Avy welcome Sierra to the North Star Lodge to “do normal things,” like making a bed for the first time in her life, in the hopes that her memory might return.
Of course, holiday hijinx and romantic possibilities ensue during that time as Jake falls for Sierra — and maybe, Sierra falls for Jake.
The excitement doesn’t stop there, though, because it seems Falling for Christmas may have a few musical surprises up its sleeve. After all, the team-up of Lohan and Overstreet is a Glee reunion of sorts.
Overstreet starred as Sam Evans from Glee Season 2 until its series finale. Lohan appeared as herself as one of the judges in the Nationals Glee Club Competition on Glee Season 3 Episode 21, “Nationals.”
So, it can’t be a coincidence that the trailer features a scene of Overstreet’s Jake strumming on his guitar. Not to mention, Falling for Christmas makes a big nod to Lohan’s comedic past in Mean Girls, which TV Line notes.
Yes, that’s Lindsay Lohan singing “Jingle Bell Rock” in the Falling for Christmas trailer. Lohan isn’t kidding when she says, “Happy holidays, everyone. Christmas has come early this year, and I come bearing gifts,” ahead of the trailer.
This Netflix holiday flick marks Lohan’s return to acting since The Canyons in 2013, and it establishes her return to a genre that she’s known and loved for — romantic comedy.
Lohan told Netflix’s TUDUM that “the opportunity to return to the genre that launched her career was part of the draw of a project like Falling for Christmas.”
Lohan shared, “It’s such a refreshing, heartwarming romantic comedy, and I miss doing those kinds of movies.”
Lohan’s resume is filled with memorable rom-com favorites — from The Parents Trap and Just My Luck to Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. By November 10, she can add Netflix’s Falling for Christmas to the list.
